Awesome, glad to see we are on the same page on this generally and my thinking wasn't just flawed! Assuming i did the transfer right, which I am very confident I did right as the new tank was bleached prior to him going into it. He even went into a bath so even the water that was on him when he went into the bath was reduced significantly before going into the new tank.

Now the various antibiotics/prazipro won't mask ich/velvet so if I did something wrong with CP I would see specs on him within a couple weeks or so right? I know a healthy fish can "hide" ich too, but with the ammonia level I'm at I'm sure he's stressed (sigh).

Yes sir!

I’ve even went as far as to find the proper amount of bleach to sterilize different tanks with.

Haha I just poured a two cups because I saw that in some youtube video for a 10g. Guess it was major overkill. Still everytime I do that I get super nervous. I rinse it out like 20x and then let it air dry, and continue that a couple times!

It’s basically 5 TBSP per 10 gallons. That’s what I currently use.

The reason why I got serious about finding the proper amount was actually two reasons:

1. Too much bleach was eating up my silicone seams.

2. I wanted to be sure that the amount I was using was enough to kill everything.

I reached out to Randy Farley and another guy named neilp2006. Neilp2006 is a PhD Microbiologist and infectious disease crisis expert who works with a lot of chemicals including bleach. Neilp did confirm this amount for me as well.

Here’s a quick post reply:

This is a helpful site also. So @neilp2006 how do you know that stuff? That is smarter than your average bear...
Are you old enough to get that reference? lol
Im a PhD microbiologist and infectious disease crisis expert. I work with a bunch of decontamination chemicals and bleach is about the most versatile and effective there is, if used properly.

And yeah- I get the reference, lol.

A little update...

Things are pretty normal. Lots of water changes... I've done 5g nearly every single day since I purchased him. At least now I'm not adding the CP and I've done all the medications and seeing how he goes. He looks fine. Still fighting the ammonia but I think that's just the tanks "cycle". He's become so used to my hand being his tank (cleaning out the water) that he will pick at my hand at times. So now I know... if you really want to bond with a fish... just do 50% water changes every day for a month!

Decided to take a little video today, he gets so excited when he sees me:

Awww, and to think he would have been a goner if you had not rescued him and took the time and care to make sure he survived. Good job. Hope he lives a long healthy life.

Congrats man! It's that much better watching them swim in your tank when you know they are parasite free and healthy.

All the fish in my system are completely pest free. Not one spot on any tang or stringy poo. No sign of ICH...because there is not ICH. wink wink.

There is such a thing as an ich free system. It just takes work in the beginning!
