My daughter and I went collecting this morning in the surf of Galveston State park. Water was relatively calm. Moderate amount of Saragossa seaweed. Collected the usual shrimp and crabs in the seaweed. But got a particular gem: saragossum pipefish

Nice so were you collecting just off the beach I've been thinking about doing something like that with my children for the summer since they show more interest in my saltwater Hobby

Yes. our plan today was to swim and play in the surf and see what we could find. Plan B was to make over to the bay side and try collecting if the beach wasnt offering anything. We have been going a couple of times a week hopeing for saragassum seaweed to be present. My daughter 12, has been looking for a saragassum angler fish and pipefish. WE got lucky today and found a pipefish. Actually 2, but we lost one in the surf. She uses a small butterfly net and scoops up the seaweed. She then runs it over to me on the beach where we shake it into a bucket. She is only knee deep so she is safe. I set up a 20 long aquarium to house whatever she finds. Last week we caught a small least puffer. When I say small it was about the size of a pencil eraser. The setup wtasnt ready so we released it.
