Folks,

My wife and I are building a new home in Fulshear, and we've decided to finally get the dream tank we've talked about - 400ish gallons 84"L x 36"D x 30"H. We're working through deciding on manufacturers and have it narrowed down to AGE and Miracles. Cost difference is relatively small, but price with AGE includes in-home setup/install vs. Miracles FOB Houston shipping depot.

My question is for folks who have moved big tanks and had to hire help to do so - how should I think about the cost to get the tank moved from the shipping depot to the house?

Budget at least $1500 if it’s a glass tank.

My 500/g 8 ft by 4 ft tank was moved very cheap around $450 but it was acrylic.

Ever think about just doing it yourself.... It is only the front glass that has to be aquirilic. Other 3 sides and bottom can be anything strong enough to hold the force. Then just use a liner and lots of glue. I move my 125 which is all glass by myself ya

I think I would get Urban Aquatics or ADG to move it. I think Ocean Life might do it as well.

As far the builder....highly recommend Miracles or if you wanna save money and get a good quality built tank go with Planet. They are out of Dallas.

Bad idea...

Few years back a marsh member bought a used tank for $2500 from another member

Some guys from the club went to help and while loading accidentally dropped the tank and cracked the bottom panel.

$2500 gone and no tank. The bottom panel was not fixable.

It is a good idea and have heard of others doing just that. But up to you it is only an idea that works. Along with saving a lot of money for the honey. As far as moving my 125 I rarely do it and I am careful.... working in a hospital we have learned to lift and pivot.

Thanks for the recommendations guys.

I think we're leaning toward Miracles right now, they're doing a true external overflow versus AGE wanting to use a Modular Marine overflow. As an aside, I was also thinking Planet would be very cost competitive, but they were about 40% higher than Miracles, but if I went with one of their standard sizes it would have been cheaper...

Yeah, custom Planets are more. Miracles is as good as it gets IMO. They have a lot of experience. You Won’t be disappointed and there will never be a seam failure.

Are you talking about Miracle aquariums out of Canada? Curious because I am looking at adding a large display in the next year and Planet was not cheap.

Yep that's them. They've been in the game since the late 80's. So about 40 years.

If they quote you higher than Reef Savvy I would hands down go with Reef Savvy. Felix is a very meticulous builder. He will not build anything that is unsafe just for money. If you want something that he knows will not be safe, then he will not build it.

The only downfall about Reef Savvy is that he takes foreeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvveeeeeerrrrrrrr to build it. The dude is so backed up it's ridiculous. He work speaks for itself though.

It was tektite, the former VP of MARSH back when it was still newer. She's the one that started the "Random Pic Of The Day" thread about seven years ago. I heard the story a while back and it broke my heart for both parties involved.

Fun fact, did yall know that in 2006 MARSH put on and hosted the 18th year of MACNA?

Did you also know that Reef Currents is the largest, annual reef convention the state of Texas? One of the original founding members of Reef Currents is actually president of MARSH as we speak.
