It’s the hobby’s fault.

At least the seller is being honest though. I have seen pictures of deadpool mushrooms bouncing, even blastos these days. Alot of people seem to equate the bouncing to LEDs and T5s, but honestly who knows everyone's tank can be drastically different.

I guess my point is, the buyer could stop that activity if they just stopped buying. But I think at the end of the day the buyer is the one setting the price based on what they are willing to pay.

Seller: You should buy this mushroom, it’s very bounced.
Me: How much?
Seller: $2k
Me: Do you know if the bubbles go away in a different tank?
Seller: It might.
Me:........
Seller: You should get it.
Me: I’ll think about it..... :slowly walking away backward:

It’s not even the whole buying deal. The situation... it’s comedic.

I mean the exact same thing can be said for sps coloration from tank to tank. That is why we all try to keep our tanks pristine, to keep that coral popping!!

there’s a LOT of photo manipulation via a variety of methods when it comes to corals, sps in particular. You buy the picture, not the coral.

Darn, I should have just hung a picture on my wall this whole time instead of setting up a tank. What was I thinking!?
Jokes aside, that is where names and lineage can come in handy imo. Rarely do the Franks keep their color when they are so small and dainty, so photo manipulation to get the coral to sell makes sense from a sellers perspective. I just like transparency with my sellers

Plus, franks tend to have a lot more variation of color than what a grown out colony will simply because it has the base and tips in the pic and it’s just a baby. Many of these “high end” corals are not what I’d call “across the room” corals. I can take three colors of monti cap, have them grow around each other, and from the other side of the room, they look beautiful. There are a lot of corals that you’d have to get your nose wet to see the colors. They don’t necessarily look good from across the room.

like cody said, your buying the picture. pictures are magnified, a single frame and you can adjust the focal point, the black balance, white balance or even use a filter, all that without ever manipulating the photo. The human eye cant do all that.

So what makes a shroom bounce? With so many bounce shrooms out there, why are they so expensive?
Prices on OGs have gone down significantly in just a year. Probably just not enough supply for the demand with certain strains.

Lineage for most of the named ones. OG will always always bounce, no matter the tank. Example: dogs used to be wolves
Genetics within the named ones. Some OG’s will bounce much bigger than other OG’s. Example: champion bloodline yorkie vs regular yorkie.
Then you have the odd ball which is a hit or miss.

Agreed. One of the most plain coral I have is a homewrecker. My garf bonsai and a few no named acros look way nicer. I don't run heavy blues so I doubt I'll ever see it's full potential, but I typically get corals that look good to me under daylight vs blue

I run AB+ and my HW is pretty bright but my SC OP is way brighter. Though it is also 4-5x as big. Even when I run more white it stays pretty bright. The WD is the one that looks like a brown dog.... unless you turn up the blue and look from directly above.

Per autocorrect, a small coral is called a “drag.”

Use in a sentence: “I’m going to a drag swap.”
Yeah know joke. WHY WON’T YOU LEARN, AUTOCORRECT?!!
