Crzej1 has been hating on my brand new amazing addition via texts because he tried using one once, and despite the tritons best efforts, he couldn’t keep blue clove polyps alive. True story.

Well, apparently my ph is 8.3 at night. Good to know. I only measured it at 8.3 during the day with a salifert. My fish room gets fresh air from outside so that would explain the elevated level.

Also, I started losing skin on a part of my blue Cali tort colony. I realized I put on a magnifying viewing lense the other day and it was concentrating light on that spot like a magnifying glass on an ant. Ooops.

Lights came on 30 minutes ago and the ph is up to 8.41 and that’s with me running a calcium reactor too. Goes to show how much using outside air can do for your ph.

Mines pretty smoothly ramping up today. At 8.52 at the moment. I was a little worried that might be too high, but I went and read the Randy Holmes Farley article on high ph. In it he says his tank at the time ran 8.3-8.5 no problem. Now, I need to set up the trident. Let’s see how that goes. I have no idea where I’m going o put this stuff in my fish room. It’s too dang crowded!

you probably have way more tank/water agitation than I do also. Due to the multiple systems. What PH are you keeping in the reactor?
Yikes! Getting a little high at 8.6. The lights are about to finish peak though then it should start going down. My calcium reactor is at 6.6.

This is strange. My apex is saying 8.65. Salifert says 8.0. Maybe the probe was messed up? I definitely calibrated yesterday and it seemed to be pretty accurate to the calibrating solution. However, the liquid that the probe was supposed to be soaking in clearly leaked out.

See the crusty stuff around the blue ph probe? It looks like salt creep.

Just took my Milwaukee ph controller that I use on my calcium reactor and plunged it into my sump. It’s showing 8.1. Looks like the apex one is off.

Wow, but you already re calibrated the unit and its still off? You calrx ph probe was probably also calibrated with the lower solution
Yeah that’s a fair point. The Milwaukee uses a 4 and 7 ph calibration. Not sure how that translates to something out of that range. However, it’s strange that the Milwaukee and salifert pretty much matched while the apex was WAY higher. I saved the calibration fluid for the apex and tested the probe against them. Both were .6 high, but the solutions weren’t sealed and I didn’t rinse with RO in between yesterday, so some cross contamination could have happened. I don’t know. I’ll order more apex calibration and see how that does.

Test the calibration solution?
Not sure how you’d do that without another ph tester. I’ll order in some more apex calibration fluid and try it again.

Tip from Neptune: Once you remove the caps off your probes. Leave them soaking in RODI water for a few hours, then install and calibrate.
Also, before you re-calibrate, do the same. Soak in RODI water, air dry, then calibrate.

I had issue with the ph probe on my Apex, it was always reading low.

Yep my ph is 8.3 at 10:50 PM because it's in the garage. I have a handheld ph probe that confirms it. Just getting lots of fresh air.
