I am pretty sure there was a discussion on MARSH about breeding copepods, but for the life of me, I can’t find it.
Is anyone growing pods and willing to share about their setup?
Thanks

You want to raise copepods right?

I am considering it. Since I had to put a filter sock back in due to too many particulates (aquarium dust, lol) in the tank, Im thinking of rinsing the dirty sock in some clean saltwater and trying to save a few. I have tisbes, so they are way too tiny to pick out of the felt - I need to go ahead and order the mesh ones. Even then, unless I use a magnifying glass they will be too small for me to see. I will look at the link
Thanks!

I used to have Copepods. I had a Manderin fish and that I was told what they eat. Back then I had 2 inches of crushed coral over a under gravel filter hooked up to a power head filter. No bubbles. Back then I was told perfect set up for Copepods colony. As well back then I would drive over an hour each way to Detroit to restock them every 6 months. (I love to cruise). Manderin lived around 8 years. Would I do that again....NEVER. Lol.

This is an option. My friend Marco used it and liked it.

I looked into that and considered it. Problem is that it’s insanely more expensive than other options. I bought 4 of the big 2.5 gallon cheese puff containers. Put cheese puffs in gallon ziplocks and sterilized containers and basically saved $400 plus over buying 2 of those kits.

Yeah, DIY can no doubt work! Just keep it really sterile. Marco crash his first culture because of sterilization issues. 2nd culture did great.

Thanks. I’ll try. Soaking in bleach for 24 hours. Trying to figure out what to use to neutralize chlorine in accordance with Kathy Leahy’s method. Any ideas?

Alcohol that’s 70% or higher is what he used.

Bleach also kills everything given enough time. Might be bad if you don’t rinse all traces of it out. Definitely don’t use anything scented or low splash. They all have detergents or other bad elements. The best one I’ve found is just straight Clorox bleach. Just watch the labels.

This is my quick cheap setup. I used RoDi tubing until my acrylic tubing comes in.
