Safe to say my tank probably is a goner. Even with a generator my 300 watt heater couldn’t keep up. As long as my 15 year old serpent star makes it I’ll be happy.
this stuff is absolutely heartbreaking. I feel the same way. Here was the only thing I could
do to help with the temp spikes. You know when the water starts having a slight odor Its not going to be good. Let’s see

Power came back on last night at 1:45 after being off for more than 30 hours. Back off again this morning.

Has anyone ever tried to file tank loses with home owners insurance? I am VERY lucky and will have to make a claim for flooring tiles that popped and cracked and thought about putting my tank loses on the claim as well.

Yea, this is terrible! I have a cousin in League City who lives by a fire station. Never lost power. It’s like our electrical grid is a board game, or maybe controlled through an app. Click on/click off, click on/click off.

First water change done. Things are still there. Corals are sliming, but not as bad as this morning. Temp is back up to 71. Big surprise my yellow tang popped out the rocks and started to swim around. Fingers crossed more fish may still be kicking. Working on filtering water for the second water change.

I have state farm renters insurance, both of my tanks have coverage up to $20k included in my policy. I have to just show proof of purchases and receipts for my coral and fish along with pictures of them alive and after they have passed to verify. I'm sure though they would try anything to get out of paying if they could.

When I set up my tank and asked my agent about coverage for water damage (which is covered the same as a burst pipe), he said homeowner’s ins doesn’t cover “pets”, etc. if you were a business, then you could buy insurance against losses like what’s going on now, but unfortunately that doesn’t apply to most of us.

And I don’t think I have all that anyway! I’ll probably try.

Yeah my agent had put them down as property instead of pets or animals. So I guess you can find some loop holes here and there.

I haven’t needed to, but my “plan C” is to set up a small tank or two in my secondary bathroom and put whatever I can in there with as much warm water in the tub as possible... plus all the other insulation, generator run heaters/small pumps. It might hold the warmer air longer

edit- besides closets, this is the smallest and most insulated-all interior-room in the house.

My parents live close to a hospital...never lost power. I know what I’m considering next time I buy a house.
