Ordered a pair of these guys from Biota last night. Thought I’d catalog the order here. They aren’t cheap at $200 a pair but they are raised on frozen foods so there’s that.

Wow! I'd love to see some pictures or videos if you have them. Mandarins are my dream fish but since I'm new to the hobby and my tank is new, I've had to come to terms with the fact that I shouldn't get them anytime soon... so I'd love to live vicariously through you/your tank

Very beautiful, good luck! BTW, they say tank "up to 30 gallons" - do they mean not to put them in a bigger tank? if so, why? (I guess more difficult access for target feeding? still should not be such strict cut off?)

Yea that’s odd. They’ll do fine in any well established reef*.

*Side note, these are raised on prepared food so they are the exception to this rule regarding mandarins.

I’ve been wanting them for years. If the tank makes it to the year mark it will be time I think.

I bought a pair from them around 6 months ago. Have them in my 260g, and they are doing great. They have grown a lot, and seem to be eating everything. Great purchase!

If I can get the dragonet to eat frozen/pellet foods no problem, will I still need to buy/grow pods?

Give the tank plenty of time to mature or you'll need to constantly buy & feed pods.

That’s the beauty of the tank raised guys, they are raised on calanus, frozen food.

Theoretically they can be added any time.

Mandarins are like regals, copper bands. Very hard to get on any type of prepared or frozen food.

Target feeding live pods isn’t easy and pretty expensive
