I have the dosing pump setup. Currently dosing calcium, alkalinity, and will get magnesium. Also dosing reef energy. I added some zoa frags, a Duncan frag, and an Acan frag. My shrimp are growing much bigger now and are so fun to watch and I hand feed them pellet crustacean food sometimes. When my money tree starts growing again I will be getting some more fish and corals. I’m thinking of a bubble or hammer coral next. I also did some par measurements and should be able to do some SPS at the top of the tank.

It has been a very long time. Some trials, some neglect, but I’m persevering. Unfortunately due to a combination of lack of experience and neglect I lost some corals. I’ve been working on this tank everyday for two weeks and it’s coming along again. Last night I made a big upgrade. I ditched the Red Sea diaphragm valve in favor of a Spears gate valve. Then I cut out the socks, and refugium wall to make room for a ReefMat 500. Really excited to not have to do the socks anymore. I also went to OceanLife Aquariums yesterday and picked up a couple Zoa frags, a torch, goby and a pink fairy wrasse.

Today has been a bitter sweet day. On one hand I got a lot of frags put in the tank, but on the other UPS dropped the ball on my order from Austin Aquafarms. They delivered my order to someone else in my neighborhood. Once he got home at close to 8 pm he brought my box over and gave it to me, but my corals are already dead. Water temperature was very hot from sitting outside since 11 am. I decided to try some SPS though which is very exciting. Look how amazing they look!

I spent some time trying to organize the mess of wires that these tanks seem to become. I think it’s looking pretty good in the sump. I have the Reef Octopus tuned pretty decently now. I just need to focus on what’s is going on in the display tank now. Oh and here is a night picture of our weird new Midas blenny. He’s quite the character. Sleeping on the rocks. Another one of him poking his head out and then one more of him swimming in the water column.

bought some new corals today, and my other corals are really thriving. No more fish yet, but I plan on getting 5 chromic soon. Still battling red gunk on the sand, but I am going to leave it be for now. See if it clears up on its own.

I recently bought some clean up crew, because the junk in the tank is getting out of hand. 3 emerald crabs, 10 hermit crabs, cerith snails, 10 margarita snails, 10 astrea snails, 10 nassarius snails, and 2 conches. They’ve already made a huge impact on my algae problems. I will take some pictures when it’s more presentable. Lol!

It’s been a while since I posted an update here. I added two corals today. I’ve been fighting GHA, but I think I finally have it under control. After much work with a toothbrush and a vacuum along with help from my clean up crew we have it down to a manageable level. I started adding some corals back after losing a quite a few to the algae. It’s been a hard road, but I’m persevering. Luckily what I lack in intelligence I make up for on stubbornness. Pictured is a fat head dendrophyllia I got from Austin Aqua Farms today and my zoas are all doing well. Also I’m up to 3 gonis. They need to be glued to the rocks at some point, but right now they’re very happy on the sand.

The duncan coral and fat head are opened up fully now. Looking really fantastic and the third picture is after spot feeding some reef chili. The fat head really responded well to that food. Look at that polyp extension! Wow!

I picked up a blue torch from Oceanlife, a few rock flower nems from Jmax. I glued down the gonis where they seemed to be happy as well. I guess I will have a tank full of Euphyllia the way it is going here...

Here are my torches:

For reference here is my single torch from way back:

Amazing how much the torches have grown! Wow!

I’m now working on implementing a Kalkwasser stirrer to supplement my calcium and alkalinity. I’m just trying different things so when I get a bigger tank I will be able to pick the things I find easiest. I will be plumbing it in and starting it up this coming weekend.

It’s slowly coming together. It’s a painful process, but getting there!

I wanted to improve surface agitation on my tank so I picked up some 1/2” loc-line pieces, some flare nozzles and printed a y-adapter and an adapter for the Red Sea valve. It turned out pretty good I think.
