Instant Ocean Reef Crystal box bags turning color

I tend to keep the bags sealed and then inside the 5gal buckets that also seal. Do not seem to have the issue and I store in the garage as well.

    GFO

My opinion is that GFO should only be used if you have out of control Po4 levels or a nuisance algae problem. A mature system should find equilibrium around the level your seeing unless the fish load is super high or over feeding is a problem.

    Corals on wind turbines

The rigs in the Gulf once you get past 40-50 miles offshore in the blue water are loaded with LPS. Do not see why this wouldn't work as long as the larvae are viable.

    Galveston Collecting Trip

Way to cold for any cool fish or peppermint shrimp. You might get some blennies or skilletfish but that would be about it. Summer is a much better time July-September would be the best months.

Water Temperature Mix Reef with Fish

I'm using T5s as the main lighting source and get up around 82 during the day if I don't have a fan running. Heaters will kick on at 78.5

TMP Salt- Stop using it immediately.

@oguzman my thoughts exactly, this person just comes off as narcissistic. How dare other people use such inferior salts! insert gif of Kermit the frog sipping tea here, while I continue to use IORC

Info about spots for collecting macroalgae in Galveston?

The white one on the bottom may be a bryozoan and not a macro algae. It has been over a decade since I had to ID any non-animal that came out of Galveston, but that looks like one to me. The dark red one should be gracilaria.

I feel like this hobby is getting too expensive

Every hobby I'm involved has increased in price the last few years but really seems like 2020 onwards everything has became immensely popular. People working from home more plus having more free time combined with either saving money from lockdowns / closures and then stimulus payments - add...

Wildly different alkalinity measurements with Hanna Checker

Aren't those sold out and no longer made?\ Really other than a Trident, it seems like Alktronic and KH director are pretty difficult to get nowadays.

Wildly different alkalinity measurements with Hanna Checker

I'm pretty religious when it comes to following the same process of testing alk with a Hanna checker. Always store the vials with RODI, rinse with tank water before testing, vial wiped of all figure prints, face the same way ect... Also have come to expect the variance when opening a new...

Wildly different alkalinity measurements with Hanna Checker

Update: Got a Salifert kit from ADG, did two tests and got alkalinity results in the high 12 / low 13 range compared to the hanna which tested at 11.9 today. I can only think that the first reagent bottle went bad, or was bad to begin with. I know that I purchased it in September from my BRS...
