    Interview with Humblefish & PauB

Most hobbyists have never even heard of Trichodina: Trichodina That’s because unless parasites levels in an aquarium are extremely high, most fish are not bothered by it.

    Interview with Humblefish & PauB

That depends on so many factors: Species of fish, overall health of their immune system, thickness of their slime coat, fish’s stress level, tank conditions, which disease(s) are in the tank, number of pathogens, etc. etc. For example, Acanthurus spp. Tangs are notoriously prone to parasites -...

    Interview with Humblefish & PauB

This has been my experience as well. However, is it because: a) The tank is so young/lacks biodiversity b) Most people start new tanks using dry rock/sand - no biodiversity c) Inexperienced aquarists not knowing all the tricks to disease management and/or fish health. Interestingly enough, I...

    Interview with Humblefish & PauB

@Subsea I would love to ID specific “predators” of fish pathogens. To date, I have only found this one study which documented how the nauplii of brine shrimp (Artemia salina) consume Velvet dinospores (free swimmers)...

    Interview with Humblefish & PauB

@Subsea I agree that a healthy gut microbiota plays a large role in bolstering a fish (or human's) natural immune system. Anyone who is not feeding their fish well is just asking for trouble. However, proper nutrition is not the end-all solution to fish diseases in a closed system. Where fish...

Fresh water Molly showing Ich 1 week after acclimation to full strength salt?

Hi Patrick - I don’t think what you are seeing is ich or evidence of any parasites. It looks more like an injury that has gotten infected: Bacterial Infections A broad spectrum antibiotic (e.g. Kanaplex) will likely bring the infection under control. P.S. I have known Paul for many years, and...

Pajama Cardinal - Sudden Color Loss and Fin Issue

I wonder if it’s some sort of mating behavior.

Pajama Cardinal - Sudden Color Loss and Fin Issue

Is the fish breathing fast or scratching? So many different things can cause paleness in fish.

Purple Tang with Tear on Tailfin?

I agree that it looks like it got ripped on a rock, or possibly another fish nipped his tail. Nori + vitamin soaked foods should help heal it.

Tang sudden hard breathing and floating at the bottom

I see what looks like small "critters" (possibly flukes?) on his back dorsal fin & anal fin. Or am I just seeing things on the glass or reflections that are behind him??

Maroon Clownfish (large) lays on side but eats fine!

I've had some older clownfish that developed swim bladder problems. They just lay around, except to eat. Exactly as you are describing. Unfortunately, there is no treatment. However, they will live for years this way if you target feed them.
