I would really like to get a starfish, fromia or linkia, for my 75g. It has been at my house since July of last year, but has been established for several years. I probably have too much live rock for this tank, but it sounds like that is a good thing for the starfish. I do have a large brittle star that came with the tank, but he stays under the rocks. Please give me your thoughts on whether I can make it work.

I would not try a chocolate chip unless it is fish only. The two I've had will eat just about anything in the tank, so I had to put them in the sump.

Although colorless my favorite one is the sand sifting star fish. They are so good at stirring sand gently. I had two in my previous tank - in the current tank I have no sand so unfortunately can't keep them.

How well the blue linkia do in captivity? I have never had one of those before. I hate to buy one and it starves to death.

From my experience if you don’t have a well established tank a linkia will most likely die in a short time, also if you have peps especially wild caught they will eat them. And by established I mean prob 2-3 years running.

I have had my Chocolate Chip Star Fish for a few months now. He is doing awesome and I like him. I feed him a small chunk of sea food medley once a week.

Long time ago I tried the small red and orange ones. they did great until the water got a bit toasty as in over 80 f. then they would just slowly rot away so gave up on that. I have always found that the chocolate chip to be the hardiest of them all.

I had a blue damsel pass and only really noticed him gone after a week. or so. He was pretty composed... Star fish never found him. I think with chocolate chip has to pretty much pass over the food to get it. No eyes to see or nose to sniff out.

I have not bought any corals or live rock for at least two years. And I have had my 3 inch 5 arm chocolate chip for a few months now. Today on the glass I noticed a 6 arm baby star fish for the first time ever. Is the one I got a few months ago the mother I have no idea. maaa maaa

Does the chocolate chip eat any corals?

I finished put a orange serpent into my tank a couple months back. Good looking one too.. but saw it while in the bag.. about 10 seconds into the tank.. and gone under a rock. That was the last time I saw it. lol. Hunted for it with a red flashlight at night, etc... gone gone.. at least from sight. Maybe it's still there. Lesson for me was not to spend the extra $ on fancy serpent or anything that tends to hide for that matter.

So back to looking for another star myself. I've seen some of the fancy ones from divers den, but haven't had the chance to spend the money for larger orders to save on the shipping.

And yes choc chips love milk...and love your corals too. I released one on watch as harlequin food.. and talk about nervous watching it move around watching for the shrimp to find it first.

I have it set up that my star fish can not come in contact with my corals. My star fish is only temporary. I just wanted a change. When I decide to get back into corals again I will probably donate the star fish to a marine store. maaa maaa
