I should be getting another gem tang tomorrow morning. I have the quarantine tank set up and copper and a copper checker on hand. Would you slowly start adding copper from the get-go or wait and see if the fish shows signs of an issue? I am also getting a cleaner wrasse and a clingfish.

I know a lot of people successfully use copper with no adverse effects but it always scares the heck out of me. So many things can go wrong when doing water changes. That's why I prefer CP. I feel the fish tolerate it better and it is very hard to overdose.

I hope this one makes it. Mine came from LA years ago (back when they were $2500) and it has grown into a beautiful beast. Its size when it becomes an adult will put purples and yellows to shame. Mine dwarfs my yellow that used to pick on it when it was little.

This gem tang appears to have the same "glistening" skin that my other one showed signs of before he went down hill. I went ahead and treated the tank with 40mg/gal of CP. The tang and wrasse are both eating well. Hopefully the CP solves any issues that he is dealing with.

Good luck!

Curious where did you get your CP from?

FYI alot of wrasses can't take cp. There is a chart on R2R about it in the fish section. There is a stick for wrasse treatment I believe.

Thanks, I saw that. It appears that people have had cleaner wrasses do fine as long as you don't go high on the dosage. I am one day in and he is doing OK and the tang appears to be way less shy.

Just make sure that gem tang is compatible with CP. I know from experience that Blue Regal tangs will die about the 3rd or 4th day if treated with CP. Found that out the hard way. So if you get a Blue Regal tang...never treat with CP. Use copper instead.
