Algae Barn boasts about "Clean" Cheato and "No Risk" Coralline Algae, but is that really the case? I don't know.

I happen to know that CMO guy and let me tell you. He is one meticulous guy. He's a great reefer and has some really nice tanks. Definitely not a rookie.

This is sad. I've thought about using this stuff to restart my waterbox build.

Anything bad from pod your reef?

I can't remember if I ordered from them or not. I do know that I will second guess them now.

Check out the thread with CMO. It's the one with the coralline algae. I told you guys he's very meticulous. As I scrolled through the thread...sure enough he had his microscope out and there's live black worms among other things (see reply #23). I have to agree with him. I too thought that when algae barn said clean....that it's basically grown in a sterile environment. I think they need to redefine the words clean and no risk. The words clean and no risk should mean that it's exactly that. There should be zero chance of anything getting into your tank because they took the time to make sure it was grown in the most sterile environment. After all, that's exactly how they market these products.

Coralline Algae in a Bottle: Make Your Bare Rock Beautiful
One of the big yardsticks that reef aquarists commonly use to determine the health of a developing system (and particularly its readiness for stony coral culture) is coralline algae growth. These encrusting rhodophytes (red algae) give live rock an attractive, natural appearance and thwart the growth of ugly, less desirable hair and film algae. The easiest and surest way to get fast, early coralline algae growth is with Coralline Algae in a Bottle. Here, you get a choice of living pink (Pink Fusion®) or purple (Purple Helix®) corallines! Each product boasts several species of viable coralline algae spores. What's more, each includes live beneficial nitrifying bacteria! There is no faster way to turn your bare base rock into beautiful and vividly colored live rock.
Coralline Information:
Coralline Algae in a Bottle is a truly unique product in that it is developed in a laboratory and contains live coralline algae spores (some products are nothing more than a mixture of calcium and magnesium, purporting to merely support coralline algae growth). Though heavily inoculated with beneficial microbes, Coralline Algae in a Bottle (unlike seed material scraped from someone else's rock) poses no risk of introducing pests or parasites. There is no easier and safer way to turn your fresh base rock into a palette of bright pinks and purples--just the way healthy, natural live reef rock looks like! See below for more information.
Genera included in Pink Fusion®:
Goniolithon, Lithophyllum, Lithoporella, Mesophyllum, Metamastophora and Sporolithon.

Genera included in Purple Fusion®:
Hydrolithon, Lithophyllum, Lithoporella, Neogoniolithon, Porolithon and Sporolithon.

BTW, the clean up crew I ordered from John Maloney at Reef Cleaners was not Quarantined. They had Vermetid snails but I already had them in my system so that didn't concern me. I did ask John on different occasions with two different email accounts if he kept fish in his Clean Up Crew vats. He told me NO both times.

I brushed them good and got all the Vermetid snails off (didn't want to introduce a different species into my tank) and dumped them without QT. No sign of ICH at all. I know my current system is ICH free.

When I got the snails...I could tell they were in a very sterile environment, because they were starved, and had zero algae on their shells. So I do believe he really doesn't house fish with any of his inverts.

So if you don't have ICH or Velvet in your tank and want a CUC...I'd recommend John at Reef Cleaners.
