What if you could get every dollar back. Would you do it?
How big would this number actually be.

I would not trade the hobby for the money I have in it - it's just too cool. The two downsides of this hobby are that you can't take a break from it and expect anything to survive, and the fact that some things don't survive no matter what you do.
Although I shudder to think how much I have spent on this hobby, it's not too bad compared to owning and restoring a classic car. The other problem with the car is, it is exactly the same as when the restoration was complete 13 years ago, so it's not quite as exciting as it was then, whereas with the tank I see something different every day.
Well if I would have invested the 10k in corals I lost in a tank crash 10 years ago in Amazon stock it would be worth over 300k so there’s that
I wouldn’t, I really enjoy the hobby. Im pretty sure my number would be uncomfortably big lol.

Interesting thought.
I am at a place where I wish I traveled more, and I am trying hard to avoid taking on any new responsibilities. So there are a few things I realize I shouldn't have done (like having a dog / cat) but the aquarium is low enough maintenance I am comfortable I could leave for 5 days without anyone even stopping by. Anything more than that I would need someone to come over every couple days to top off ATO, feed the fish better food, etc. To be clear I wouldn't trade away my dog / cats at all.
So really I am happy with this hobby.
Now there are many other hobbies I wish I had gone a different route or never went into. Like with my Stealth. It's great having a car with 600awhp. Do I ever use that hp? No. Am I afraid to use it? Yeah (afraid of breaking more). Do the mods ever stop? Nope. Is it worth any more that it's well modified? Nope. Do I wish I got a different car? At times, especially with how the fast & furious set prices of similarly priced cars shoot through the roof.

aaaactually... amazon stock was trading @ $69.57 on jan 7th 2000. you $10k would have bought around 143-144 shares. amazon @close today was $3036 which would value your invesment (or lack thereof) at around $434,148.00
how did you like the stealth? was it the all wheel steering? that sucker sounded complicated even when it was brand new. The dodge and mitsu where just an incredible application of technology at the time. The Supra has always been pretty cool but fast and furious made that thing a collectors item.
come on Frank. i sometimes wake up in the middle of the night looking for my keys that Aston. that thing is incredible and something to be loved and driven.
So 2/4 cars I've ever owned have been stealths. They are the only "sports" "grand touring" of the bunch so I don't really have too much to compare it to. I mean I'm still part of the club, I get a ton of thumbs up while driving it. People always come up and say they haven't seen one in 15+ years. A '94 RX7 (FD3S) or earlier gen?Haha, I forgot that's what the Stealth was - I was thinking of something newer. I agree on the complication. In '94 when I was looking to get a cool car, I thought about those, but they were so heavy and complicated. I drove a Nissan 300Z with four wheel steering and wasn't that impressed, so I wound up with an RX-7 which is still 100% stock. You can't go wrong with the old-fashioned formula of light weight and good balance.
And yes, I can't lie - I still drool a little every time I go into my garage. However, I stand by my contention that the cars stay the same and the tank is always something new, even if it's just another Aiptasia growing.

That was the car I was really looking at instead of the Stealth. Those things have been shooting up in value too. My thought process in getting the stealth over the rx7 was both had a major issue, engine for the rx7 and transmission for the stealth. In the end I figured I could drive a car with a broken transmission to some degree, but an engine was a show stopper. Don't mind the fact I went through two transmissions within the first 6 months of owning the car...
They were quick up to about 60mph. After that the AWD and small 9b turbo's couldn't keep up at that. Still I ran a 13.6 bone stock and only driven a manual for less than a week. For a 90's car that isn't bad.I had the Mitsubishi 3K VR4 the car would run but I wouldn’t say it was all that fast. I did enjoy the drive though. Maybe with some programming mods for boost it would have been more fun.
That's why I still have mine. I know it's not worth the money I have into it... but everyone always regrets selling cars. I will never sell it.I just want the ‘67 Camaro back I had in college. 327, factory air & front disc brakes (both rarities).
So stupid for selling it. Man I miss that car.
