Interesting thought.

I am at a place where I wish I traveled more, and I am trying hard to avoid taking on any new responsibilities. So there are a few things I realize I shouldn't have done (like having a dog / cat) but the aquarium is low enough maintenance I am comfortable I could leave for 5 days without anyone even stopping by. Anything more than that I would need someone to come over every couple days to top off ATO, feed the fish better food, etc. To be clear I wouldn't trade away my dog / cats at all.

So really I am happy with this hobby.

Now there are many other hobbies I wish I had gone a different route or never went into. Like with my Stealth. It's great having a car with 600awhp. Do I ever use that hp? No. Am I afraid to use it? Yeah (afraid of breaking more). Do the mods ever stop? Nope. Is it worth any more that it's well modified? Nope. Do I wish I got a different car? At times, especially with how the fast & furious set prices of similarly priced cars shoot through the roof.

I would not trade the hobby for the money I have in it - it's just too cool. The two downsides of this hobby are that you can't take a break from it and expect anything to survive, and the fact that some things don't survive no matter what you do.

Although I shudder to think how much I have spent on this hobby, it's not too bad compared to owning and restoring a classic car. The other problem with the car is, it is exactly the same as when the restoration was complete 13 years ago, so it's not quite as exciting as it was then, whereas with the tank I see something different every day.

I think this answer was very well said. It really stinks that we don't have the opportunity to place the tank on hold/pause and everything continue as is.

The every day grid of different tasks can sometimes be frustrating and fatiguing. It's definitely a love/hate relationship.

It's crazy the amount of stuff accumulated in this hobby.

Well if I would have invested the 10k in corals I lost in a tank crash 10 years ago in Amazon stock it would be worth over 300k so there’s that

Man...that's insane. I think Diesel lost 10k in corals a while back.

Most of these LFS lose that, but they get them for almost free. I know both Dennis and Nick have had big crashes over 10k.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Actually this hobby saved my thousands by keeping me busy and interested so I don’t worry about the other crazy expensive hobbies I used to have. [emoji4]

aaaactually... amazon stock was trading @ $69.57 on jan 7th 2000. you $10k would have bought around 143-144 shares. amazon @close today was $3036 which would value your invesment (or lack thereof) at around $434,148.00 :flame:

how did you like the stealth? was it the all wheel steering? that sucker sounded complicated even when it was brand new. The dodge and mitsu where just an incredible application of technology at the time. The Supra has always been pretty cool but fast and furious made that thing a collectors item.

Haha, I forgot that's what the Stealth was - I was thinking of something newer. I agree on the complication. In '94 when I was looking to get a cool car, I thought about those, but they were so heavy and complicated. I drove a Nissan 300Z with four wheel steering and wasn't that impressed, so I wound up with an RX-7 which is still 100% stock. You can't go wrong with the old-fashioned formula of light weight and good balance.

And yes, I can't lie - I still drool a little every time I go into my garage. However, I stand by my contention that the cars stay the same and the tank is always something new, even if it's just another Aiptasia growing.

So 2/4 cars I've ever owned have been stealths. They are the only "sports" "grand touring" of the bunch so I don't really have too much to compare it to. I mean I'm still part of the club, I get a ton of thumbs up while driving it. People always come up and say they haven't seen one in 15+ years. So it's pretty nice to have a rare car.

It had AWS, but it's really funky because it engages at a certain speed. So a lot of drivers complain that sometimes in the middle of a turn it'll engage. Most people actually remove it (I did too). There really is a lot of fancy technology in it for it's time.

A '94 RX7 (FD3S) or earlier gen?

That was the car I was really looking at instead of the Stealth. Those things have been shooting up in value too. My thought process in getting the stealth over the rx7 was both had a major issue, engine for the rx7 and transmission for the stealth. In the end I figured I could drive a car with a broken transmission to some degree, but an engine was a show stopper. Don't mind the fact I went through two transmissions within the first 6 months of owning the car...

I had the Mitsubishi 3K VR4 the car would run but I wouldn’t say it was all that fast. I did enjoy the drive though. Maybe with some programming mods for boost it would have been more fun.

Enter Miata... those things are serious contenders. Much to the chagrin of many Porsche and BMW owners that will outrun the Miata on the straights only to give that lead back and be overtaken in the corners. I have seen many an E46 driver get comically frustrated.

Yes, it's a '94, with the sequential twin turbos. I have not had any major problems with the engine, although it does feel like maybe it doesn't have quite the power it used to after 71k miles. The biggest issue was all the electronics behind the instrument panel had to be replaced - driving it with no tach or speedo was kind of exciting.

I just want the ‘67 Camaro back I had in college. 327, factory air & front disc brakes (both rarities).

So stupid for selling it. Man I miss that car.

They were quick up to about 60mph. After that the AWD and small 9b turbo's couldn't keep up at that. Still I ran a 13.6 bone stock and only driven a manual for less than a week. For a 90's car that isn't bad.

I think the biggest pitfall of the platform was the lack of aftermarket. None of the big companies really got behind it. Things have gotten a little better, but still it's lacking.

That's why I still have mine. I know it's not worth the money I have into it... but everyone always regrets selling cars. I will never sell it.

Of course I miss my first vehicle too. ‘75 Chevy Blazer. Top came off all the way to the windshield. Had some good times in that vehicle!

Edelbrock manifold. Holly 750 double pumper. 350 4 bolt main bored out. Lopey cam. Ported and polished heads. Tube steel powder coated headers, glass packs, 4” lift kit, 36” monster mudders, fancy aluminum wheels.
