One thing to consider before you go too crazy…is that up that far north…you are in major Tornado country sir. You will need a good shelter for you and the wife. Better to be smart

Wish somebody would have told me this when I moved to Tyler. Had no idea. A few years after I move back south a huge Tornado obliterated Canton, TX. Just NW of my location.

As far as tanks, I’d say Planet because they are in Dallas and because they build awesome tanks for good prices.

2nd choice is Waterbox.

I've already had 2 go right over my house in bridgeland since I've live here. I remember them in katy fry rd when I was younger.

the majority of leaks that happened to the 750xxl was because it has a long span of unsupported area under one side of the tank. It was marketed as a "positive" to allow easy access to the sump for maintenance or even sump removal. it was later found out that span sagged and caused pressure points in the tank that allowed it to leak.

Majority of the tanks listed here have metal framed stands. I think the cade aquariums have the most elaborate stands outta the list. I wouldn't hold what happened with the 750xxl against red sea when comparing it to this "class" of aquariums.
I tried to build a 150/G with 2x4’s. 60” long. Got rejected a few months later when I noticed the middle was looking a little low. I measured both ends and then the middle and sure enough it was sagging. I drained it to the sand for about 20 minutes and put a middle brace (pre cut that was the original height size) in front and back. Filled it back up and problem solved. Planet never blinked.

Today I never go larger than 48” w/o a center brace. My stand now I even went with a 2x6 for the length, but still 2x4’s on the width. No center braces.

I kinda agree with you. Only thing that I didn’t like about that was that Red Sea should have hired an engineer to look at these things before they sold thousands of tanks to the public. Any good tank manufacturer should do that to make sure their product is safe.

I promise…on that day when the big mother comes…steveb will be very happy I warned him to get the shelter!

Once you get up near Dallas and north of that…youin great danger. It could happen at anytime.

Definitely get a weather radio too.

That day in Canton…20+ people packed themselves into an interior bathroom. It was the only room left standing. All 20+ survived. If you asked them all if they would get a tornado shelter even as far south as Tyler…they definitely would. :)

The good thing is… that far north most people can buy a shelter at Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Can you imagine being at work watching a big wedge tornado (EF5) come down in you’re neighborhood knowing your wife is there w/o an underground shelter to run into. Another reason why a weather radio is crucial. You will “at minimal” be warned to get the heck outta there. Sometimes (most of the time) it’s better to shelter in place.

I mentioned elos in one of my posts but they are stupid expensive.
Elos Diamond Series 200XL
I just now saw you listed dimensions with the tanks. If you're going with 7-8' tank....I'd do 26-30" depth, but nothing over 24" tall as tempting as it may be.

The Elos Diamond Series is dope, but not worth it really. Once the tank is up and running you'll be happy. Just get a starfire front.

I take it back. For the price of the biggest waterbox ($7500 with no availability yet) or Red Sea, id do a custom 84” x 36” x 26” low iron, external overflow with a t-slot alufabinc stand with acrylic 5’ sump.

I just bought a SCA 150, euro braced and drilled for the synergy overflow. The quality is very high, I don’t have water in it yet, but the tank is sweet!

and way cheaper than the water box or Red Sea or the planet.

It's the cheapest on the market right now when you get his sale, but you have to take exactly what he gives you. Glad you got the deal and were OK with his model tank. It really looks good, but I was hoping he would work with me, but he wouldn't.

I talked to him several times and he was basically not going to do any modification's that I wanted so I custom ordered from planet. The guy was pretty much dodging my questions and has a basic model that they rake in money on.

I need a tank with corner protectors. That's a deal breaker for me. Nobody likes to tear up their silicone seams with razor blades. I like to pick my own overflow box and drill for it or have it drilled with the waterline height I prefer. Plus I didn't want Euro bracing on my tank because It's more difficult to perform certain tasks and if you're not running Vortech's the wavemaker cords will have to go 4" out from the side and over the Euro bracing. I just couldn't do it.

He's still running those same deals since I talked to him:

Yeah, I took the deal of the month, great deal $995 for a 150g drilled for the overflow box. Crazy price!. I wanted the euro bracing, tired of water splashing out when I clean the sides, I run Vortechs, so no issue & I chose to go with a modular marine overflow over the synergy. They modify their overflow box to match the holes of the synergy for $35. With that box I can get the water weight I want & get a rear box at the same height as my interior piece for my own comfort. I've seen people online drill the euro bracing so cords could go through for the gyre style pumps with no issues.

I spoke to Steve several times via email before ordering & he was helpful, but I wasn't trying to customize anything. I inquired about a Planet tank, but they had a shortage of glass & for the tank I wanted, it was 3 times the SCA price. SCA got me exactly what I wanted.

Glad you’re happy with it. If I were to get an overflow box again. It would probably be Modular Marine, because I’m not liking some of the new features on the Synergy. Some I love, but some annoy me compared to the last model. The magnetic weir on the last model was brilliant and now it’s a difficult snap on/off.

No way I could ever have a metal stand. I am always getting little water over flow from over hang filters here and there. I was just under my tank doing some dry wall work behind my tank and found a damp spot.

Haha hilarious - what kind of dry wall work?

stick a $5 Walmart fan (probably $10 in Canada) under your stand. Let it run 24/7.

In my house fans run 24/7 in every room unless it’s cold.

In Texas humidity is very high so air circulation is a must especially with reef tanks at home.
