Never seen that before, but I have not kept maroon clowns. That looked like a very intentional rip.
Personally, I would seperate them if that behavior continues.
Its pretty normal for them to (for lack of a better term) 'suck' on the tentacles of a new nem.
I've never seen them rip tentacles off though.

I love these guys, I always get at least two for tanks with sandbeds.
I honestly can't think of any cons, even at max size, they're not much of an issue.
I'm on an older motherboard and a 1150 socket, age of equipment is definitely my issue.
I looked at some new mobos and its pretty clear the new stuff will provide better M.2 performance:
