Ok so sorry to have posted that again in the same thread lol, my original plan to hook the Jenny to the furnace worked great house is 72 degrees...with a 6500 I’m running my fridge, the neighbors fridge, my furnace, my 3 tanks, a tv, a PlayStation and some chargers lol.

How many gallons per day? I’m getting a trifuel carb for mine so next time it’s going to be on natural gas. I’m more than sure it will power the entire house in extreme cold. My setup is similar to yours only I have two tanks which are both small so my efficiency is even better.

Right about 10 for a full 24...I’d like to do a few things differently for a just in case but this served its purpose.

Managed to keep my house warm and tank running by backfeeding a phase with a 2kw peak 1.5kw continuous generator. Lucky that fridge, furnace, and fish tank were all on the same phase. I think I am going to get a critical load panel and transfer switch at the very least after this. Make it a bit safer and easier to hook up.

They are saying rolling blackouts and wide spread electrical power outages. Roads may be down for days because No one in this area has road clearing machinery. Dallas will be worse
6 inches of snow on 2 different days with no way of clearing the roads. May be entire tanks wiped out here because unlike summer storms you will have no way to keep your fish warm once
power is gone. Now is almost 2 late for any preparation,
If only I had seen this message I would probably would not have lost all :(

My wrasses eye in my display tank is white now.

Not anything that has to be done now but pool equipment plumbing is hosed. Also worried about the heat exchanger in the heater. Normally the pump and heater runs when it’s less than 40° to keep things from freezing. Since it lost power it all had water in the lines and an exchanger.

If there a way to drain the lines if this is gonna happen next year? Or is it best to cut the water off? Would that leave water in the lines? Or is it better to leave the water on and slightly flowing?

Depends on you...we left our water running at all faucets cold & hot...came out fine. House was 75 to though. If your home stays warm then you should be able to hold off the freeze as I did, if not and you turn off the water then open all faucets to let out the water

The pool equipment runs when temp gets down to 35° (Dunno why I thought 40°) but when power goes away obviously doesn’t work. That section of pipe I don’t see a way to drain. Maybe add a Tee and a valve.

The heat exchanger has a drain plug.

Maybe time for a 2nd generator? Pool equipment is costly to fix.

When I was about 16 years old. My friends and I went over to my girlfriends parents house when they were out of town. We got in the hot tub and didn’t do anything destructive, but we did mess with the switches/valves and stuff like that. Apparently we did enough damage to cost them $5K to get it fixed. Not sure how turning valves & switches did that, but I guess we messed it up pretty good.

I would that hard to believe as well. I can close off intake valves to the pump. My main pump is about $2k I think but it does have run dry protection.

but if you had water flowing that’s likely not the case. My heater won’t turn on if the pump is not running.

I dunno what was possible on those older systems.

Well I thought I had dodged a bullet but....

If you are lucky that spigot broke right inside the wall. If you have space, when you get it fixed take advantage and get a frost free like they use up north. Just go to your home supply store of choice and search "frost free spigot". There are some fancy ones but a standard 4" should be plenty for what we get down here. Just be sure to add insulation around it in the wall.

I had a pipe burst at one of the elbows-luckily it was an outside faucet like Steve’s, and it was at the end of a water line, so was able to cut and cap temporarily rather than do a bigger fix. My plumber will come back next week to either repair it or install a new faucet somewhere close by. Do the “frost free spigots” just keep the actual faucet from splitting?
