went in FG for the 1st time today. The store itself was impressive, the livestock was impressive if you are more into freshwater fish. INSANE amount of stock and nice looking tanks. Only problem I came across was pricing. But seeing as how they are in a nicer part of town and seem to cater to Drs offices and public setups it is expected.

They DID have a "new" Oceanic 29g Biocube HQI setup. (I was told this was a new product but cant find the info on the web anywhere about it) I was impressed with the asthetics, but not with the price. For ~80$ I could get a 28G Nanocube HQI with a stand for 550$ so I just dont understand the pricing on it. It didnt even come with the stand. It will take ALOT of convincing to the husband to get me that one LOL

Appeal = A+
Cleanliness = A+
Pricing = C
Amount of dry Goods = B
Amount of livestock = A+
Customer Service = B- (I guess we looked too poor to be helped, associate walked off)

Overall I would rate them a A-. I would go back for livestock/plants if it was freshwater. Maybe saltwater if they had somthing different, I understand things change. ^_^ Just honest feedback. <3 Kitty

Look it up online and I bet you can find it cheaper than that, they just have a tendency to price gouge, but they have that cliental that will pay it, so shop around at a few places before you make a decision.

Customer service = F

I know many people that have stood around that store and get no help.

LOL I was *trying* to be nice, but yea I was VERY upset when an associate answered one of my questions and when I went "ehhh" about the price he literally walked off. I kinda had a few more questions...

Buying a new tank is like buying a car for me, especially if it is over 200$. Unless you have a good, steady source of income (which most of america doesnt) it's gonna take alot of thinking to make a big purchase. We arent poor, but we dont wanna throw money away either LOL

I unno...granted we didnt have the money yesterday to make the purchase, but a lil' salesmanship and persuading could have sold me one in the next 2 weeks, when the rebate money arrives. Now, I probably wont be back unless Im in that part of town.

Once again, Im not trying to diss anyone or talk smack, this is just honest feedback. I just hope the other places I go to in the future have better staff.

/end rant

Last time I was there (about 2 weeks ago) some saltwater tanks were being taken over for freshwater, from the looks of it. I agree their freshwater section is awesome. But their saltwater section just keeps getting worse. The fish tanks always have some nasty fluorescent green crud in them and very little fish. Half their corals are that gross brown color. Who wants a tank full of brown corals? I go there for fw fish or supplies. I've never bought sw livestock. As a large store, they remind me more of Aquarium World on 290. If I'm looking for SW livestock and had to choose out of those two stores, I would go up to AW hands down.

It's too bad, because I think the next closest sw place is City Pets. You'd think they could make some big bucks on the SW in the downtown/river oaks area.

I've been there probably 8 or 10 times, mostly just looking killing time at lunch since they are about 10 min away from my office. I've never had problems with getting help, but they've never been busy when I stop by around 12:30-1:30. I bought little things like bulkheads and strainers and such, eventhough I paid a bit more, they are convenient and that is worth a bit if I need it pretty quickly. Omar and one of the other guys - I didn't get his name - with the spiky hair, were pretty helpful when I was working on setting up the new tank.

The fish I've bought were mostly fine, only lost one $3 damsel out of 4 items I bought. I was there yesterday, and they finished converting 1/2 of the SW livestock tanks in the back to FW. It looked like they had rearranged a lot of the rock and stock in the coral tanks too.

Still a nice place to look and my kids enjoyed the Christmas party there.
