If you mean the color of your tank.. no, it would be more crisp and white (the overall appearance).

If you mean your corals, not necessarily. Some corals can color up nicely on 10K's. From other people's experience, I would say that most corals will loose that purple/fluorescent look depending on what type of species you have.

Are you using any actinic lighting? Usually this will help wash out the yellow cast of the 10K's.

Darrin, the coloration sps corals will change to under 10k lighting is what made me switch from the iwasaki's to the 10k. I am using the 10k XM's, but there are a lot of 10k bulbs out there. Some more like 12-14k yet still considered a 10k. IME, the tank color I have seen with my XM's is great. It's a bright white and with my 2 160w 03 actinics I love it. The frags I have growing out are also enjoying some great new colors too.

If you want to see some 10k with 20k mixed check out Jim Norris's tank on the www.maast.com site.

You have a big enough tank to mix the 2 and have good growth from 10k's.

I saw a friend's tank w/ 400w, 20K MH before, it's not as bright as the 250w, 10K Ushio .. and he is going to switch it back to 10K (HQI) soon lower electricity bills. One good thing about the 20K is that it makes your corals look more colorful (eventhough it's may not be the true color of the corals).

i cant tell any difference from my tank compared to jim norris's... actually mine seem more colorful, but then it just may be my monitor or the way jim takes photos or whatever.. this is making me paraniod...

i want really really bright colors.. but i dont like the blue wash to my tank as much...

I changed from 400watt Radiums on HQI ballasts to the Ushio 400watt 10Ks. I saw no loss of color. The blues were not quite as blue because of the light, but the yellows and pinks were much more pronounced. The 10Ks are about 10-20% brighter, as measured by my lux meter.

IMO, Radiums are only good for supplemental lighting.
