Hi everyone,

I'm a new member. I've kept freshwater fish my entire life--everything from bettas to goldfish to fahaka puffers. I've dabbled in saltwater, but I've never been serious with it. I've now decided to get serious with the salty side.

I've purchased a 210 gallon (bigger is better, right?).

I know lighting is like religion, politics, and motor oil, but what would everyone suggest?

I'm currently looking for a mixed reef setup. I thought about LED but I've read a lot about T5. The hybrid sounds nice too. I'm not wanting to spend a fortune. I need to be in under $1K. I'm also looking for something fool proof and as close as possible to plug n play. (No changing lens, swapping colors, etc.)

Let me know your thoughts!

Some of the guys on here run the Chinese black box light and love them. I myself like the radions but for a 210 your going to spend more than a grand. On my old 210 I had 3 radions .

210 is a great size tanks. I loved my 210 just wished it was wider so ended up going 6 inches wider.

Good luck. Ask lots of questions here as there many with great knowledge to help avoid some of the typical mistakes.

I think I've decided to either go T5 or a T5/MH combo. What size fixture would you run on a 72' tank?

Thanks!

I'd go with an 8 bulb ATI Sunpower model and add two actinic bars to it... Something like SBReef Actinic bars or Reefbrites.

I am running a oddysea fixture with 4 ATI t5s and one 250w 14k DE. I forget the name atop of my head, but i think the bulb is iwasaki. The metal halide gives a real nice spread too.

I’ve heard various stories on the odyssea fixtures. Have you had any issues with yours?

Would 4 Hydra 26's cover a standard 210 gallon? 72"LX24"WX29"H

I understand this would blow my $1K budget. I just don't know how many is good.
