Can the mag float fit everywhere between the rock and side of the tank? Just have to make sure you can clean all available areas, ...

everywhere but a small little area toward the back, right hand side. but that's only a very small space. the little mag float can get in surprisingly small spaces.

you still need any more rock?
not sure yet. i need a few small filler pieces to fill a couple of small gaps here and there. i'll also be using some rubble rock for the rear section. if you still have that rock you're cooking, i guess i could bust it up into rubble and use a little in the rear chambers.

i tested my water today, but i'm not sure if i believe the test kits. they said my ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate are all at, or close to, 0. the kits are kind of old and are the cheapies. i do have some diatom/cyano growth here and there, but for the most part the tank is looking pretty clean.

i did add my first live stock. i threw in 10 dwarf blue leg hermits, 2 nassarius snails, and 5 astrea snails. i plan on getting more cleaners in the future, but for now these should do. future inverts will probably include a few dwarf red tip hermits, some margarita snails (turbos are too big), cerith snails, maybe a pom pom crab, probably some peps, and maybe my small little clam that i have in my 90 already. if i have enough room, maybe an rbta. hopefully the rbta in my 90 will split by the time i'm ready for it.

starting to get some cyano and diatoms all over the place. that means the cycle is running.

i purchased a hydor koralia nano today to try out. love the small size, but it's nowhere near enough flow. i tried out a koralia #1 that i had going in my 20 gallon tank and even that seems too low; but it is much better than the nano. heck, i might even try a koralia #2. regardless of that though, i would like to upgrade the stock pump. the stock pump runs at 290 gph. i though about moving up to a maxi-jet 1200, but that would only increase to 295 gph. so i'm on the hunt for a better pump...something over 300 gph but still small enough to fit in the chamber.

How about two #1's?

I have a #1 that I'm currently using in my 29gal nano. It's not enough flow for me. I'm looking for something with a tad more kick. Wanna trade anything?

Dude why so much flow, my daughters tank has a about 300 gph with the
added small maxi 110gph and stuff is blowing all over the place. Now hers
is a 12g, you must of got a small return pump when acquired the tank.

well the stock pump is 290 gph. i added the koralia 2 at 600 gph. doesn't even move the sand or blow the snails off the rocks. i still want to upgrade the stock pump to something over 300 gph.

no new pics yet, but i did get some livestock. i picked up 4 ricordeas from, where else, bay area aquarium. there are about 60 +/- still there for $18 each, which is a good deal imo. i'm acclimating them to my 90 gallon tank for now, but as soon as the cycle is done they are going into the cube.

update:

i added the new light setup. it's a 150 watt metal halide sunpod by current usa. puts out some light...that's all i have to say. the bulb is an xm 20k bulb if i remember correctly. i might try to switch it out with a 14k bulb in the near future to try out different colors. i also moved the koralia #2 to the back of the tank, at the top. this way it blows forward and generates an upcurrent. pretty cool.

before, with stock lights (72 watts compact fluorescents):

after, with 150 watt mh sunpod with xm 20k bulb:

it looks much better in person. plus i get to enjoy shimmer lines finally.

i also ditched the ceramic rings, sponges, and bioballs that came with the filtration system. i loaded down the first chamber with live rock rubble. i left the center chamber empty in hopes to get a skimmer in there eventually.

i've been thinking about doing some sort of fuge. i'm thinking about using a phosban reactor to throw some chaeto into and maybe get a cool little light to go with it. might be a cool diy project.
