I guess I missed the post but what light are you using. I am in search for one to use on my new 28 gallon tank.

i'm using a current usa 150 watt sunpod hqi metal halide. the bulb is supposed to be an xm 20k, but it doesn't seem nears as blue as other xm 20k bulbs i've seen.

update:
ok, so i've sold my rbta. it was just too big and took up too much space. and that's not the direction i wanted to go with this tank. so that's gone. i may add a very small one in the future, but i don't know.

i have added more livestock. i got a t. crocea clam from joe (aka bugman), a prizm favia from alan (gadus1), three micromussa frags (one from fishcraze, one from fishstick, and one from bay area aquarium), and i added a very nice sized acan mini colony (also from bay area aquarium). the acan and micro from baa were purchased tonight, so i don't have pics of them yet. not to mention they're all ticked off because of the change of scenery. i also don't have a pic of the prizm either since it is also recently acquired. if you notice also, the rockwork was tweaked a little bit. it's not much, but it was hell getting back to decent shape after having to remove a lot of it due to anemone removal. but i think i like it even more now.

here's the pics...

ok, so it's been a while since my last update. i've gotten quite a bit more corals for the tank. the dragon soul prizm favia from gadus1, a small acan from jlord1, some small zoas from slyfox, and lots of stuff from bay area aquarium. from baa i picked up an ORA chips acro, an ORA german blue polyp digitata, and a nice green with blue tips acro (not sure on species yet).

sorry for the bad pics, i just put some new stuff and everything is pissed off.

i also picked up a teardrop maxima and an ora squamosa...again, from baa. i added some corals i got from fireeater and slyfox that all look great btw.

this may be a little premature, but oh well. i'm excited about it.

i had the boss order me a pair of helfrichi firefish for my nano. they should be here on thursday. two more were ordered if anyone's interested.

i also picked up a gorgeous pair of picasso clowns today that are acclimating as i am typing this. as soon as they are done, i'll put them in the tank and take some pictures in the next few days.

a pair of helfrichi firefish?

So these are bonded pairs? I trust you have done your homework on the pricey stuff after what happened to your jawfish. I have read they are "jumpers".

Marine Center info:

Helfrich's Firefish is a member of the family Microdesmidae, which are often referred to as firefishes or dartfishes. This rare species has a bright pink light front half, a lighter pink rear half, a yellow area on its head and pink and yellow on the fins. It is recommended only for the highly experienced aquarist with a well-established reef, because it is more delicate than the other species of firefishes. Do not attempt this fish if your aquarium runs warm or if you have any remotely boisterous fishes. This fish cannot tolerate either. It will ignore its tankmates, with the possible exception of other firefish species. Helfrich's Firefish has a very mild personality, and it will be picked on by more pugnacious fishes. Firefish can jump from open tanks.

yeah, i've researched them tremendously, as most if not all the fish i purchase. i have plenty of cover for the tank until they get established.

they won't be bonded from the start. that was my biggest concern when i decided to take the plunge. but i have the benefit of having multiple tanks. if one or the other gets unruly...to the 90 it goes.

as for temps, both of my established tanks stay pretty low, as far as reef temps go. not to mention, both are fairly stable.

the problem with the jawfish that i ran into was the dreaded brooklynella/blue spot jawfish disease (no joke). the temperature wasn't a factor in that case. it was actually doing quite well, but brooklynella set in rather quickly one day while i was at school. i came home and it was too late...brook had already taken over and there was little hope for recovery. the only thing that was lacking for me was a brook treatment...which is basically formaldehyde/formalin.

i took some pics, but since the lights weren't on and the fish were moving too much they are all blurry. so, i took a brief video instead. the light in the tank is from ambient room lighting, so sorry if it's dark.

And I cut some eggcrate out and fit it over my tank just for a little extra protection to keep the firefish in the tank. i know the holes are big enough for the fish to squeeze through to some extent, but at least this way it's not completely open. better to have some protection than none.
