Is there such a thing? These Red Sea reefers have a closed area, sump area is enclosed which means if you have fans down there it just blows humidity around, in the sump which makes for air exchange being very difficult. I’d like to install a three or 4 inch computer fan in the back wall area (I’d have to drill through) to exhaust some of the humidity from the sump fan I’ve got going. Can anyone recommend a good small family power supply that can withstand humid air for a few years?

Anyone have any recommendations?

I've used a few different computer fans over the years and never had any problem with any of them breaking due to humidity. Even if they eventually did break, just replace it. Computer fans are super cheap. Just find one that you like and go for it. As far as I know, there's no such thing as a fan made for high humidity applications.

Just make sure the fans have some sort of bearing. you can find good waterproof 12V dc power supplies and fans on ebay.. That's all i use

I agree the bearing ones are the ones you want. Typically good brands like Coolermaster and Thermaltake will last a while. As long as your 12v power supply is a good one you should be ok. Meanwell makes the best power supplies money can buy...I am not a fan of ebay PS because you dont know what you are getting....but then again it is just a fan.... :)

... draw air in from outside the stand and keeps the sump area well ventilated...

Run the flow from outside to inside and computer fans will run for several years easily. IMHO, more expensive fans are made to run quieter.

I originally used a golf cart charger for a power supply, before using a computer accessory power adapter. I suspect any 12V power adapter that provides the minimum amperage should work.

I’ll have to play around with it. I’d prefer not to drill the reefers stand but it is sealed up and that’s part of the problem. I ordered a 3 pack of 120mm fans and power supplies to run 2 per supply. There’s an opening at the back of the stand where they run plumbing up/down, albeit slightly blocked but it’s there. I’ll try mounting the fans there to bring in fresh air off the same location on the Alex to turn them on when the sump fan turns on at 78.3. Should have them today. We’ll see how they help.

Thanks.

Yup small PC fans is a great idea - Any 4" 120mm computer fans (19 dBA or less) should do the job (amazon has some nice ones).

I used to have an elos tank with an enclosed stand just like the red sea. I didn't want to drill the stand so instead for some air exchange I would just leave the stand doors open at night.

Well I got 4 4” I believe 45cfm fans and power supplies. I was able to basically wedge them behind The plumbing coming from the drain down to the stand in the return up to the tank. If you know the Red Sea tanks there is an opening in the back of the stand just for them. I was able to squeeze two fans in between the stand and plumbing without modification. Now both are bringing in fresh air. One after affect was my pH went from 8.42 to 8.53. The Real test will be in the summer months. I hope it doesn’t cause any additional condensation inside the sump area. When my t5 fans come on these two also come on and stay on for about 8 hours. Now my sump fans run less as well.

Icecap makes some that work perfect. They even have a temp probe that measures the ambient temp of the site and cuts the fan on accordingly. Melevsreef.com sale not l both the fans and a bracket to hold them.
He makes it for 3" and 4" fans. Double and single
