I have had my current 120 setup for about a year now. Not long after I got it up and running I was wanting to upgrade to an 8 foot tank. I stumbled across someone selling an almost complete 375 gallon tank and decided to pull the trigger on it. This tank is going in the same place as the 120 is but will kind of be a room divider between my kitchen and living room. We are going to have to rearrange how the living room is set up but my wife is on board with me. The plan for the tank is going to be like the 120 is being a mixed reef but we are looking forward to being able to keep larger fish again.

I picked the new tank up yesterday along with all of the other things that came with it. The tank measures 96x30x30 with the overflow on the end. It came with a stand, Vertex 250 skimmer, a Reef Octopus 300 skimmer, some MP40s some Jebo power heads, a 40 breeder tank that was used as a sump, a 20 gallon tank as a top off, a mag 12 as a return, 4 24 inch 4 bulb t5s, rock and sand. I will end up selling off a bunch of stuff between the two tanks once this tank is up and running.

For the new tank, I plan on using the MP40s that I have on my current tank plus the ones that came with it for a total of 4, I have 3 Kessils, I will buy a forth and add these to the t5 fixtures that came with it, all of the GHL control equipment and the calcium reactor I have will be moved over. I plan on using the Octopus skimmer and I am looking for a sump to replace the one that came with it, if I can find one I like I will end up building one. I was going to use the stand that came with it but decided to make a new one and make a canopy for it since it will be in the main living area of the house. I need to have as much of this tank ready to go once I take the other tank down. I am not sure how I will move the livestock yet, I am guessing it will take me a week or two to get everything from one tank to the other.

I spent the day today getting things cleaned up, got the old paint on the tank that was previously the back, got the skimmer and skimmer pump soaked in vinegar and it works as its supposed to. I went to the store and picked up some of the lumber for the stand. I should be able to get the skin and trim finished up sometime this week. Once that done I will work on the canopy and then get it all painted. Here is the full garage of fish stuff and the new stand frame.

Ha...my garage is a mess at the moment.

Are those Crosshatches in your profile pic yours?

Yes those were mine, I took that picture about 10 years ago and I will be looking for another pair for this tank. I have a couple of videos of them somewhere.

Got some done on the stand today. I did make a 1.5 inch lip inside of it that will be sealed, got lots of filling and sanding left to do on the trim. The stand will have 2 sets of double doors on each long side and a single door on the short side. I am going to build a shelf on the short side for the GHL equipment. The canopy is going to have the same door configuration, just need to figure out how tall I want to make it. This will be the first tank I have had in a long time with a canopy.

Just noticed that you mentioned it came with a 40 breeder sump for this display. That’s very small. Are you going to use it for this build?

Nice work. That’s the biggest thing for me with another tank with a steel stand—wrapping it with something nIce looking.

Got the stand and canopy mostly finished and it will be 86 inches tall from the top of the canopy to the floor. Ill be making doors (16 more) for the next couple of days and still need to make the cabinet for the GHL equipment and then it will be ready for paint.

Been looking at sumps, seems like the quickest I can get one made is about 6 weeks at best. I will more than likley just build one.

Great job looks good.

How the heck the previous guy had a 40 breeder sump on a tank that big - he must have added check valves in case of power loss.

My previous tank was 8X4 and sump was 5X3 - get the biggest sump you can fit under that stand. It's well worth it.

Im not sure how he had it, I dont remember seening check valves...The sump I think I am going to build will be 60x22. Id like to try and build a PVC and acrylic sump but I have never welded PVC before and Im not sure I want to learn on this. Acrylic will be no problem.

Today I got the cabinet built for the GHL stuff, cut some slits in the canopy to keep the MP40 wiring hidden as much as possible and got all of the sanding finished.

Great progress -

For flow, I would do one maxspect gyre 350s on each end and couple of MP40s on the back wall. MP40s alone won't cut it IMO.

I will have the 4 MP40s on the long sides (2 on each staggered opposing each other) and the return at the opposite end of the tank pushing the water towards the overflow. If it looks like it needs more flow (and it probably will) I'll add more for sure.

Got everything painted and moved in to my office until the other tank is out of the way. The sump is the next thing on the list.
