So I got the 40 b from luman01 and im getting ready to sand the stand and get it down to wood and just stain the wood. What would be a good sealer besides paint, if I need to paint it I'm going to go with a sand color paint or a light gray. Equipment will be 2 nero 3s and 2 ai hydra 32s. Im still trying to pick my return pump but I really like the cor 15. I want to have an ato just not sure what to go with. I still need to shim the tank to get it level and I need to start working on my aqua scape as im using dry live rock.

If you end up sanding and staining - I like matte polyurethane finish. I've used this and liked it. I do 3 or more coats. And don't make the same mistake I did once - never buy gel stain.
Matte poly is good aesthetically... however, I’ve found that a semi-gloss or high gloss finish is easier to just wipe water spots or salt off of. You can also find some stains (I used a weathered grey one recently) that have the poly in them already, so one and done ✅

This stand is the basic 2x4 stand, skinned with good plywood, corners are plastic finish corners from Lowes glued in place to hide the plywood butted together and with 3 fully removeable magnetic doors. The tank measures 30" long by 18" wide by 20" deep with a modular marine external overflow and over the top return line. No water in it yet other than a water test. I may sell it since I may be moving soon. It was intended to be a species tank - a group of jawfish with nems or zoa's on top of the rocks. I think that makes it around 50 gallons set up in a peninsula format. It has a custom it open sump underneath. Since under the tank real estate is small, I was thinking about putting a side cabinet to hold all the controllers and such. My intent was to automate this system as much as possible including AWC. I am looking at getting a 30x30x20 tank as a gig nem species tank instead also set up as peninsula style.

Probably more than you want to know given we were just talking about the paint!

I haven't touched the aquarium since I got it. I'm wanting to connect the secondary drain to the main with a y connection and then go to a filter sock or figure out a way to add a second sock to the sump

Do not connect the secondary to the main. For that matter, each of your three pipes should have its own separate down pipe. The secondary on your ghost bean animal overflow, when properly tuned, should account for maybe 5% of your overall flow, so adding a sock to it isn’t doing much. The third pipe can be aimed anywhere in your sump, because it should never see action. If it does, then your overflow worked as designed, and your two other pipes are clogged.

By connecting them, it will not allow the overflow to function silently, and also eliminate the redundancy of backups that your overflow has, which are the two amazing aspects of your overflow. I should know, because I’m the person that built your overflow :)

Well I have gotten sand and my live rock. It will be a couple weeks before I get my return pump and water so I can start cycling the tank. This is what it looks like so far 20210626_210519.jpg

Well sand wasn't rinsed so I need to figure out how to clean that while its in my tank and the heater is shot so I need to find a Cobalt 150w heater and I need to get a piece of 1 1/2 in pipe for the secondary drain. I have pump set to 35 percent and the main drain all the way open.
