So (as some of y’all may know) my dad has had a 45 lagoon for quite some time. It. Is. A. Disaster. Sps dominant but everything is (at least) severely bleached, has little to no polyp extension, basically dead. Last Friday he handed it over to me so I’m rehabbing this puppy. Spent all weekend researching for a stocking list and how the heck to fix this thing. Now that school has been canceled today and tomorrow I have all the time in the world to get my hands wet and clean it up! Did a massive (30 gallon) water change (Which was super not fun cause we mix water in the garage and the tank is upstairs so I had to carry all that water up here), dosed new supplements and vitamins, cleaned the glass and this awful mucky jelly stuff all over the overflow that reminded me of BJD. Here’s it after the initial clean up and help. 62610A86-9076-49EA-AD3D-A094BB5CA217.jpeg 6EF79144-E4A2-4551-903F-7C4E50277C08.jpeg

So, plans for the future!!

Planned stock list (probably won’t happen because yknow, that other thing at the lfs is SO PRETTY)

Clam/ bubble tip nem/ softie tank:
Hopefully-

~2/3 varieties of nem (funburst/CSB/inferno/whatever idc about lineage I just want beautiful bubble tips)

~at least 2 clams (hoping for a teardrop maxima, blue maxima, and green crocea)

~neon green nepthea (already bought this)

~a bunch of zoas I don’t already have (hopefully a little more higher end, salted agaves, sopranos, queen strat, space chaos, bowser, Oompa Loompa, etc)

~Fiji/Tonga yellow leather

~a hell of a lot of rock flower nems

~mini maxi anemones

~alveopora

~clove polyps (at least 3 varieties I’m thinking)

~ground cover (bb tank) scolies, lobos, open brains, will probably also use zoas

~other stuff that I look at and decide I like

Fish List!!
-1/2 Madagascar Coral Crouchers (Anybody know where I can get these? Don’t really trust LA right now with the management switch)

-Pair of Fire Clowns

-Longnose Hawk

-Dwarf angel (most likely a flameback)

-Ruby Red Dragonet/Red Mandarin (after I get pods breeding in here and whichever one I get will be captive bred or eating frozen as well)

Inverts:
-Fire Shrimp
-Porcelain Crabs (pair?)
-Pom Pom Crabs (pair?)

Holy. Crap. Woke up at 8 am this morning and I’ve been working all day. Took all the corals out and put them in Tupperware with tank water. 95FBCD23-27EB-47F7-8558-9B24EBED6BDE.jpeg E8B65839-9EDC-46B3-9834-ED3323C7549D.jpeg 8BE60D78-33C2-49FA-B939-71596FE3916C.jpeg

Took out all the rocks and cleaned them with a toothbrush in a 5 gallon bucket with salt water to remove some slime algae?? Diatoms?? No idea but it was disgusting and smelled like a 3 month old skimmate cup vomited on a skunk who’d just eaten Taco Bell. Caught all the live stock where it sold much quicker than I ever thought anything could possibly be sold.

Did 4 almost water changes? Basically I did a water change but instead of the water going straight into a bucket, it went through a filter sock first so there was no debris in the old water. Then I dumped that clean old water back into the tank since I did a real 30 gallon water change on it yesterday and the water is still fresh. Did this to get remaining disgustingness out and to make the tank squeaky clean. Then I rescaped the entire tank. Used a technique I’d never seen before, I’m gonna call it the ‘Landslide’ technique. Made a very basic scape with large rocks then tumbled rubble down to make a slope. Heres my first attempt. 90DC6798-7878-4734-9B0C-BE3420A77C01.jpeg 5E9801B2-613F-4942-AC8C-54DFD40C1A7F.jpeg C4DA73E5-9B9F-4C0E-9251-5E6429A118FF.jpeg 8245B0FF-9BA3-4ECD-9AE5-0ECC28D507E9.jpeg B48B9183-A205-453F-BFF1-DF29F3E35C09.jpeg

The corals look dead
Yeah I know, they’re awful looking. That’s why I’m redoing the tank. If you read the first post, it was given to me like this and I’m trying to make it beautiful like a proper reef tank should be. All the corals are currently being placed in my other tanks to hopefully give them a good environment to recover a little bit while I fix the water chemistry in this tank.

Here’s the final scape! I’ll work on changing the lights on Monday to a whiter spectrum and lower par so all the bleached corals have a good chance of recovering in there when I move them back. Small frag of Mohican Suns as a tester coral cause there is no way I’m putting all that expensive sps back in there right now. It seems to be doing okay! First time I’ve ever seen it open actually, and it’s been in there for the entire lifespan of the tank, I think it’s been 4-5 months. The tank just had a big purchase made!! I was lucky enough to be able to participate in the Zoanthids.com livesale today (10 hours, that was a marathon) and bought 5 gorgeous pieces! One of them is a mystery zoa box so I’m super excited for that!! There were so many gorgeous zoas that were just out of my price range so I decided to give the box a twirl and let the lovely folks at Zoanthids choose for me.

Im also super excited about the 4 pieces that I definitively know about, so I’ll share them! They were all a great price and I waffled on the last one for a while but after asking my brother if I should get it (using only the name of the coral) he responded with a resounding yes.

The Suck Ups!! I’ve been watching and waiting for these beauties!! IMO, they’re wayyy too similar to the snitches to warrant paying 2x the price for a snitch so the suckups are a great alternative! The pic is a nice saturated teal color which I am very excited for, I hope they display this color just as vibrantly in my tank! 50FAE7FD-111F-4990-9C81-4E126873B7E6.png

Then I saw these new Grandes palythoa and I’ve been looking at some cinnamon palys for a long time due to their impressive size but the coloring was kind of a deal breaker for me. These are a new release so I couldn’t do any research on them but if they look like the pic I will be very pleased!! I hope they’re as big as advertised! 9B626812-558D-4781-A3D9-1FA0A9785FDB.png

There was a bathroom break sale so I snatched this super fast, it’s just a single polyp but I think the color contrast is amazing! Definitely a very saturated zoa and I haven’t really seen one that looks like this so I’m excited for it!! B0BD8B12-652B-4715-8AF9-C4947853E37E.png

Then last but definitely not least, the family joke now, my new chalice. Pink B00bies has haunted me for a while now but I finally found a really good deal on one I simply couldn’t pass up!! It shall be mine! 7AB64B4D-B178-4C28-A528-00B370724C77.png

Alright guys, thanks for reading. Cody, thanks for the games!! They were really fun! Sad I lost Plincoralo but I still walked away with a nice $50 gift card that may land me a hamster in a blender Favia next week who knows. I might have to start a ‘corals with slightly inappropriate names’ corner of the tank! Stay salty y’all and I’ll post again when everything arrives!!

Can't wait to see what's in you mystery zoa box! Exciting!! And glad you finally found your Pink BOO B chalice. I really like how mine is growing out. And kinda surprised you didn't pick up a BigR Gumdrop as well. So somehow I missed that they were doing another big sale yesterday. I had been checking in on them on a regular basis. I thought I even checked as late as last week. Nonetheless, I made an unexpected purchase this morning. The additional 25% off today for their after sale was the deciding factor. It was like, Ok, twist my arm. Hahaha. Can't wait to see all of the new stuff in the lagoon! Very curious about the Zipper Grandes too.

I really wanted to pull the trigger on the BigR but I don’t really get that much allowance money :(. Allowance and coral sales are all I have right now in terms of income so I couldn’t afford it unfortunately. I did win a $50 gift card so I might try to get something with that after it comes in. Shipping is killing me though, $35 to ship a coral I’m gonna spend $30 or less on, I’m not really sure I can justify that :(.

The only thing I’m super upset that I missed is the cloudberries chalice. I saw it and it was beautiful but it’s just a little bit too expensive :(. I hear it’s a fast grower so I’m wondering if anybody on MARSH has it and would be willing to sell/trade for some of it. There were very VERY nice zoas but I bought the box so we’ll see if I get lucky with some really nice ones :).

I picked up my beautiful new clown from @ITreefer today! He’s absolutely gorgeous and a bit bigger than I thought he’d be which is a relief because I was worried he wouldn’t be able to find food very well. He’s just a tiny bit smaller than the flurry clown he’s gonna be paired with so I think I’ll start introductions next week, just so he has a little time to settle in. Hopefully the flurry will teach him how to eat frozen foods too! I’m hoping that he eventually hosts the CSB, that would definitely win a photo of the month contest!

Thanks ITreefer!!! He’s a stunning, healthy fish and just gorgeous, it’ll be a pleasure to take care of him!! 5280CCEA-910E-4EB4-8BDD-45DDC0181C71.jpeg 0C9FCD64-CA33-4A18-B085-6532768B239F.jpeg

Thank you! Putting a lot of effort into it, I’m very pleased with the way it’s turning out! Eventually I’ll have a couple (or maybe more than that) clams on the top bit of rock by the overflow.
