It has a long time, but I am back in the hobby again.

Here’s my 3-4 month old 60 Cube. It’s an older aquarium, but the techniques in use are mostly up to speed with today’s methods. I am playing a little catch up. I haven’t been deep into reef keeping in a few years.

There is quite a bit going on behind the scenes, but everything in the tank is doing well. I have had a serious issue with a green carpet anemone. It was a fish killer and is currently sitting in my QT. That drama is over. I have had a GCA eat a fish before, but not one as aggressive as this guy. He was damaged and made a hell of a turnaround.

As you can see, I have dramatically decreased the amount of rock-work in this system. I did this when I decided to remove the anemone. That was as good of an excuse as any to make changes.

For lighting, I am running two Kessil A360WE Tuna Blue fixtures. They are currently controlled by a Kessil controller, but not for long. I have a VDM for the Apex that I need to hook up.

For filtration, I am running a Tunze 3181 Algae reactor with chaeto and an Eshopps S-120 skimmer in an Eshopps RS-100 sump. I run a Tunze 60x5 Stream pump of some sort in the sump to keep debris off the floor of the skimmer section.

Flow is handled by a Vortech MP40QD supplemented by two Koralia 3G pumps.

The return is just a simple Mag 5. If I could find two small and decent DC pumps, I would do that instead. 3.5” of space in the return section of my skimmer is a bit tough to work with.

I check Temp, pH, Ca and Alk only currently. I count on water changes for Mag and trace elements as my bio load is quite small at the moment.

Temperature control is handled by a Neptune Apex EL managing a fluval 200W heater. This is an area that needs to be addressed with some redundancy. I also have a Teco Seachill TR10, but it is not currently plumbed in. It will be by summertime!

I am dosing Red Sea two part with the Neptune DOS with BRS 2-part on the way (probably enough for 15 years.

I currently do 20% water changes every 10 days with Reef Crystals. I am considering changing. I top off using a Tunze Osmolator (3155).

I currently feed the fish mysis (lps get mysis too) and Hikari Marine S. I target feed the SPS with Reef Nutrition Phyto and Oyster Eggs.

Here’s my normal range over a week.

Temp:77-78 F
Ca:465
Alk:8.5-9.5
pH:7.8-8.0 (would like this to be higher)
Salinity:1.024-1.025
