I have an odd growth habit for the acans in my tank, wondering other reefers experience and thoughts. From what I understand they typically fill out the skeleton with heads and once that's finished it starts growing as a ball. mine are not experiencing any new heads sprouting; yet they are getting much much larger than when first put in my tank. some polyps are measuring 1.5"-1.75". Am I doing something wrong? thoughts and tips greatly appreciated! I will try and post pics tomorrow.

I think unusually large polyps can sometimes mean the light is a little low. This is not based on any specific scientific knowledge I have, but more on observations in my tank and with plants that grow overly long if they don't have bright enough light. Unfortunately my track record with acans is not very good. I have some Superman Rhodactis mushrooms, and the ones on the bottom grow huge compared to the ones on the rock close to the light.

All the acans I got did the same thing. The 2 heads grew to 2-3x the size of when I first got them from the store and then a few months later exploded with new heads from seemingly out of nowhere. These photos are from August, November, and February. Don't have a more recent photo since lights are out but it's still getting bigger with the new heads.

well..... I'm not sure how to say this but my acan ate a rock flower anemone today..... this was after being spot fed reef roids this morning so maybe I just need to start feeding him meaty foods.

edit: the anemone has gained some purchase and is fighting back, the acan is trying it's hardest to eat him though. pumps off for the next 30min while they figure things out
