OK ! Captain New did it right for us ! After fishing in the morning, and getting quite a bit of spec, we had 5 net pulls. We eliminated the game fish, the croakers and other undesirables, including a most amazing ray collection. One massive butterfly ray.
What we kept was:
2 cutlass fish ( They did not survive the trip)
2 Jacks
2 Lookdowns
4 squid - one died in transit - the other three don't look good but made it home
1 spade ( about an inch long)
2 hog choker
we did keep a few of the shrimp as well. I would definitely do it again with Jimmy New ( texas tail chasers) and for 5 pulls we did darn well.
No puffers or rays small enough to keep. Lots of rays and one butterfly was almost 2 feet across. So we were a tad disappointed. But for the amount of time, we did well. I'll post a few pictures.

Yeah, I’ve seen some serious life in the sarg matt’s while out surfing especially when the water is green. Surfside tends to have more life and the water gets more green there.

Chris you there someone was asking about getting seagrass a while back. I know you know the hoops is that legal?
Anything is legal if you don’t get caught
(I’m kidding, but I’d be amazed if you actually got in trouble for a little bit of sea grass)
That stuff washes up in HUGE mats. Don’t think anybody would arrest you for a bucket of sargassum.

Hey - caught some sergeant majors and file file off the shore with buckets and small dip net !

Those are very common in Florida. Haven’t caught any here yet, but if they’re in the gulf, they could easily come here especially in the summer.

Ah Panama City. The place that keeps on giving. Stingray (just caught it with a net, terrified for my life), pipefish, filefish, seaweed blenny, and some kinda red crab that turned out to be reef safe (thank god)

I like Panama City. My favorite part of the Gulf Coast is from Pensacola to Destin. Then on the East side I like Delray down to Miami. Although I’ve surfed from Jacksonville down to New Smyrna. Gets super sharky on the other side.
