OK, so I’ve looked tirelessly on the net for a picture of that tiny reef fish I’ve caught twice before.

They like boat ramps or wooden dock areas. They hang by structures or up against the sides of boat ramps or pilings.

They closely resemble a tiny butterfly fish. They look just like the pic below, but are tiny, kinda a dark or faded black color, and without the pointed snout. The have a more round nose I believe.

CHRIS, have you seen these are know where to find them or what they are?

I think I never talked about this crab I found in the sargassum one time which seems to be some sort of decorator crab because it’s always been putting things from the tank on its self. What do y’all think?

Distinguishing

Similar Species
It's difficult to distinguish between the portly and the longnose spider crabs, except by counting the spines (bumps) down the center of the carapace. The portly has 8-9 (the anterior one just small bumps) and the longnose has less than 7 (usually 6).The longnose has a more tear-drop shape, the portly more rounded.
Habitat
Gulf and bay
Maximum Size
Slightly larger than the longnose spider crab (10 cm or 4 in)

Yea it does seem like a spider crab as well he’s been doing really good in my tank putting things on him that he finds. And how are you? I’ve been wanting to get out there in the water again.

Well the tide dropped out past the Jetty today so you could probably rake in on the anemones, the shrimp and blennies went deep in the rocks but not uncatchable. You will still catch stuff. When are you going?

I was planning on going Sunday. That would be great though if I could do tomorrow afternoon! I just need to see if I can. Would you want to go to the Texas city dike?

I couldn't tell you where to catch anything over there and I don't think I would have time to make it out there.

If you can't make it tomorrow I will gather some stuff up for you. What are you looking for? How big is your tank?

Ok so I think I will be able to make it tomorrow afternoon just that I would be there around 7:00-7:30 and I don’t know what time you would be there and how long. And where would you like to collect? It doesn’t really matter where. And by the way my tank is 50 gallons and I would be really interested in getting gobies, blennys and pistol shrimp. Honestly I would keep anything cool I can catch because I don’t just have one tank. The 50 gallon is the main community tank and I have other 30 and 10 gallons where I put different stuff that can’t be in the main. So just let me know what your plans are for Tomorrow![emoji106]

I have from about 2:00- 3:00 pm and I could make it back around 8:30 till whenever. The tide has been way out in the morning, so depending on what it looks like in the morning I might go out early too.

Yes I’ll take a couple of mollies and just a little macro, don’t want to take all of your stuff that you took time on getting lol. thank you very much for it. Ok so I guess I would see you at 8:30 correct? And what’s the location of the spot you would like to go to?

Either the jetty across from academy or the one across from the rainforest cafe?

I will see you there at 8:30pm.

I will let you know when the mollies are ready, they are only about a week and a half old.

Let me see what I can get for you!?!
