i recently set up a 110 total gallon system with 480 watts of flo light over most of it. it consists of 8 ten gallons linked to a twenty gallon caulerpa tank and a 30 long display tank. it was designed for coral propogation, but an unexpected result has occured. i left for cali for the holidays ten days ago, entrusting my corals and tanks to a coworker. i moved all of my corals from the larger system to my 27 gallon (now a very full, but pretty tank) where i just replaced my bulbs and where it is easier to dose for the person taking care of my tank. a couple hours before moving my corals, however, i dosed the tank heavily with DTs plankton because i had originally not planned to move my corals. i left for cali feeling confident my tanks were ok. when i returned, i couldnt beleive my eyes. my entire 110 gallon system was a huge phytoplankton breeding ground. the entire system is the same pea soup green as DTs and i cant see more than 2 inches into the system. i'm horrified yet facinated at the same time. i beleive a friend of mine might be a little jealous because he's been trying to grow some for a while. dont worry, i'll give him some. I just thought id share this experience with all of you and offer up the possibility of selling it to everyone in the future. maybe ill just grow plankton instead of coral :D i seem to be doing well with it
