I’m battling hair algae in my frag tank. If one of my frag plugs gets a little messy, all I have to do is drop them in the display and let the yellow and blue hippo tang go to work. The before and after pics were about 10 minutes apart.

Good work fishies! Foxfaces are pretty sweet as well. Sadly they do get spoiled over time...

Those thorns worry me.

That's pretty amazing. My tangs don't do nearly that thorough a job, but maybe it's just the difference in tank size.

It looks like your ASD rainbow milli is doing better since you got rid of that huge flatworm.

Yep. It definitely looks good but not back to its former glory. The polyp extension isn’t that great. Not sure why.

Bristle tooth tangs are awesome. I have a tomini in one tank and a white tail in the other, and they both work really hard to keep the glass clean.
So full disclosure, I have a third tang. He’s in the frag tank that is battling hair algae. It’s a tomini tang and I’ve only ever seen him grazing a time or two. He’s worthless for hair algae.

My kole scrapes the glass and grazes the rocks. The Achilles and Powder Blue will graze the rocks a bit. The hybrid black doesn't really go after anything. I think my main problem is I feed them a full sheet of nori every day and they have become fat and lazy.

I put some rocks in my QT that have algae on them, he grazes all day... it isn't hair algae though... that is why I really want him in my display.

I agree they don't do much for hair algae. Actually, I think I usually wind up with bryopsis rather than hair algae, and nothing seems to eat that.

Can’t you just use some medicine and knock it out?

I ended up getting a tiny yellow tang for my frag tank. Gonna move the tomini to another tank. I wish I had one long tank instead of two 40 breeders so I could keep larger tangs, but two tanks for $80-100 or a grand for a new larger tank is an easy choice for my broke butt to make.

I went the Fluconazole route in the big tank and it worked great. Now the 150 has it, and I don't want to use the Fluconazole because it will kill my Halimeda. So I just started dosing Vibrant - don't know if it eats macroalgae too, but I guess I'll find out.

Move some Halimeda to the other tank, dose it to kill the briopsys, then move halimeda back. Problem solved.

If I had done that sooner it might have been a good option, but now pretty much all the Halimeda has bryopsis growing on top of it, and I don't want to reintroduce it to the big tank. The 150 also has bubble algae, so I will just try the Vibrant for a while to try to solve both problems. I haven't heard if Fluconazole kill bubble algae, although it's probably likely that it would.

Vibrant kills chaeto and other macro algae. Haven't seen it do much for bubble algae.
I’ve seen it do wonders against bubble algae multiple times.

I've heard this before, but I dose Continuum Aquatics Bacter Clean-M (about 70ml per week) which is basically a different formula of Vibrant and I do a pretty good job of growing Chaeto now days. I guess if you just flood the tank with tons of food you can grow any type of algae!
