It may look cheap but it’s a million times better than the crap you had before. If you change that out monthly it will work just fine.

I’m on it my friend. No more dirty filters in this apartment. A/C sounds so smooth now. I’ve noticed now that it’s breathing it’s much cooler and kicks off more than on. Lol

You guys are cracking me up...Gregg or whoever said it was correct when they said the filter should be changed once per month. And if you have the one in the furnace, you don't need the 24x24 in the wall. That grill is only there to allow air to pass into the closet where the unit is. Sure it might help a little, but unless the closet is sealed everywhere else, it will still be pulling air in around and under the door and the dust along with it. In fact, having that hall filter in there will actually restrict the air flow with the filter trying to filter the air, meaning more will be diverted to around and under the door, causing dust bunnies to build up around the door. I'd not replace it after this time and just focus on the 14" one in the unit.

The insulation you pulled out isn't really a big deal because the unit is inside a controlled environment. Those units are designed to be placed vertical in a closet OR horizontal in an attic. If it was in an attic, the bare metal where the insulation was would sweat due to the temperature difference in the attic air vs the conditioned air in the unit. Since the whole unit is in a conditioned space, it won't sweat so don't worry about replacing it.

Also your coil didn't look that bad. It could probably use a cleaning but didn't appear clogged. That filter on the other hand...don't ever do that again.

Also, those "crap" filters aren't that bad if you change them monthly. I use them in my house. If you have allergies or experience a lot of dust everywhere, you can opt for the more expensive ones, but understand that since they filter more particles out of the air, they will clog quicker, meaning they will need to be changed more often. But you will benefit from the more expensive ones if you have allergies or are sensitive to dust.
But the main goal of the filter is to catch particles that are large enough to stick to the coil and restrict the air flow. Restricting the air flow too much by using too tight of a filter can cause problems too like slowing the air flow to the point that the coil gets too cold and freezes up.

This is what you need, if the apartment drags their feet or tries to push blame on you. One of these tablets every few months in the pan will help keep the drain line from building up gunk and clogging. It’s routine maintenance. The spray is just a high pressure solvent that will help clear out a lot of the crap on the coil fins. Make sure the drain line is not clogged before you use the spray as it will need to run out through the drain line. You can tell that the drain line is clogged or not by looking to see if water is sitting in the pan. If the pan is empty, pour a cup of water in it and see if it drains quickly. Cleaning the coils once a year is not a bad idea. The cleaner the coils, the more efficiently the systems runs.

Great info man!

Yeah the expensive filter actually mess up your system more unless change often since it’s restrict flow what I learned from an online ac tech.

Reefaholic is super paranoid when it comes to things like that [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
