I am not sure what exactly this is. It appears to have a stony skeleton that can be seen when it pulls in. It kind of looks like a mushroom but there is no soft base, just a hollow stony skeleton (like a cylinder).

Turns out it is a Tunicate. Still a good guy though!


From the picture and description posted, it looks and is described as a coral, likely a 'blasto' polyp. IHMO, tunicates look a lot like sponges, and I've never heard of them contracting or expanding like corals, and they definitely don't have a stony skeletal base.

Why do you think it's a tunicate?
