One of the furnaces in my house isn't working. The inducer motor starts, the ignition strip turns on, I get 23.02 volts at the gas control valve but no gas to comes on.

So I think its the gas control valve but I'm not 100% sure. I'm wondering if 23.02v is enough to engage the solenoid? So wondering if it might be the control board.

Its a York single speed 2001 vintage. I can't find a model # of the furnace itself but the gas control valve is part# 025-31996-000 and the board is 031-01267-001.

I used to have an A/C company. It looks like the gas valve to me. When it calls for it come on (ie you get voltage), try tapping the side of the valve with a hammer. Sometimes the piston gets stuck.

If it opens, then replace the valve as its no longer reliable. 23 vac should be enough to energize the solenoid.

The unit model number might be in the blower compartment or on the panel that you took off to see the guts.

I looked. I’m guessing it’s on the side of the furnace I can’t see (lays on its side).

If we don't hear from you, is that because you perished in the fire? or because she killed you for burning the house down?

Hahaha this is the most technically sounding answer for "hit it with a hammer until it works"

haha, you'd be surprised what I can fix with a hammer and duct tape.....
oh, and a little bailing wire when needed

For those extra stubborn situations when a hammer just won't cut it, try bailing wire! 9 out of 10 doctors recommend it!

Here is the new one installed
d560dbc18212cb2b70e8645ebdbca7a0.jpg

Testing:

Failed to start 1st time after 3 attempts then had 7 flashes on control board.

Power cycled the unit.

1st attempt no ignition
2nd attempt flame on

About 2 minutes later flame out.

Turned thermostat down, then back to 78
1st attempt no ignition
2nd attempt flame on

It brought the house up from 72 to 76 (about 15 minutes).

I turned thermostat back to 70 to dang hot for this fat man.

I’m going to wait an hour and then run it again.

So is it working or not? It failed the first couple of times if you didn't bleed the air out of the gas line. You need to do that for the fail safes. If it doesn't detect flame almost immediately, it will shut down. An easy fix is to bleed the air at the gas valve when you put it back together.

Yeah I think air was needing to be bled.

That’s why I power cycled it.

2nd time it flamed out after about 2 minutes. But I didn’t get or possibly didn’t wait long enough to get a code. I turned the thermostat down pretty much right after the flame went out.

3rd time it stayed on until I turned the thermostat back (about 15 minutes).

I’m going to wait a bit then turn it back up again to make sure it comes on again when there is a call for heat.

@webster1234

 Well looks like its still having problems.

Yesterday ran the A/C. About mid day I noticed A/C wasn't running as it was getting warm (yeah in December). I looked at thermostat (Nest) and it had an e74 error - basically no power at Rh wire.

I reset the power to the furnace a couple of times + checked power at Rh wire with DMM and sure enough no A/C voltage.

This morning low an behold Nest showed equipment present again but call for heat is not turning on furnace. Air handler fan does run during heat cycle. When I get off at noon I will check the furnace to see if inducer fan starts and igniter comes on.
