We had a tank issue about six months ago and a startup LFS was watching our big Emperor and a Vlamingi Tang for us while they were supposed to be having a tank made. I went to get my fish back yesterday from them

So you went after 6 months to check on your fish/pet that meant so much to you. If it was a pet you cared for so much you should've gone every week to make sure it's cared for.

Does the name start with an F and end with a D? If it does then my doubts all these year were not misplaced. If it's not I still have my doubts :)

No, although nothing we have gotten from their has lived either.

You guys need to STOP bashing lfs that has a decent reputation and good fish quality.

Good point. If someone was holding my fish, I would probably be there almost every day, feeding it and helping with maintaining it's tank until I could get it home again.

I tried to check up on the fish and asked for videos. The fish were being kept in one of the "business partner's" personal tanks in his home (supposedly) and not at the store. And that partner has a day job elsewhere and wouldn't so much as send me a video of my fish after the first few weeks. I got video of the fish early on, but then every time I asked, they would deflect. I received one other video of the tang towards the end of the ordeal, but that was it.

We were in a pickle at the time everything happened (had our main 210 gal spring a caulk leak, then had the bottom blow out of a temp tank we borrowed) and had asked them if they were capable of housing our two big fish and we put the rest of our fish in a 30 gal biocube. The arrangement was supposed to be for 2-3 weeks, which was the lead time on the tank they were having built for us. We kept asking about the fish and where our tank was and time kept passing. We were never invited/asked to see the fish where it was being housed as there was always some excuse as to why they weren't available. As someone else noted in the other post, their storefront posts open hours but show up there randomly and see if they are actually open. Also, the store is in Tomball, which was about 40 minutes from our house at the time and were in the middle of buying a house in Katy plus we both have full time jobs. It really wasn't possible for us to go to their store every single day and check on the fish. Hindsight is 20/20. Had I known then what I know now, I would have just taken my chances keeping the fish in a giant trash can over asking them to hold them, or I would have re-sealed my tank with the caulk leak instead of selling it. When we found out that they had moved one of our fish to the store, we asked to come see it. No one was available (during their business hours) for us to come see it unless it was like 10am on a weekday. We finally demanded that someone be at the shop on New Year's day because both my husband and I would be off work and we wanted to see our fish. We get there, and there is a tank that has "Emperor Angel NFS" written on it, but it was empty. We were not happy and Mike called his business partner, Jeremy, who had supposedly moved the fish back to his house. There have been excuses at every turn in this ordeal. I would think it would have been common courtesy to call us and say "yo, your fish died. I'm sorry" when it happened. Or to let us know if it wasn't doing well, especially considering he was super healthy originally. Instead, I show up to pick up my fish (which I wanted to do on Friday night, which got pushed to Sunday night as they were out of town, then got pushed to Monday because they were still out of town, then pushed again to Tuesday because they hadn't made it back to town yet <- and that pretty much sums up having to arrange anything with them), and they went so far as to buy another emperor and try to tell me that it was my original one. Yes, he fessed up that it was a replacement after I called them out on it and claims that Jeremy did all of this and he was unaware of it.

There are plenty of things I wish we had done differently in this situation, but if I were to rewind the clock back to the end of August when all of this happened without having experienced this before, I would have probably made close to the same choices.

+1 Yup never had a problem with Andy and if your nice he's very nice. He's been around for a lot longer then most. That should mean something. Everyone is always going to have a problem with a certain LFS, that's just normal daily business/life. But how many people have the same issues is the question, a few is normal. 50%+ negative reviews is not. These threads pop up every few months.

Now that would get my blood definetly boiling. Sorry you had to go through that. Startup businesses are hard, esp when working a 2nd job. BUT STILL you don't put your losses into someone else's pocket. Suck it up and move on, don't dig the hole deeper.

Your original post made it easy to speculate as there were a lot of unanswered questions. Makes more sense now.

She's not even talking about Andy, that was a small comment in a much larger story. Please ready the first page where the name was said.

I apologize for being cryptic in the beginning. I really didn't want to say the name of the LFS and just wanted to provide a small back story as to why I am asking the question of "hey, y'all seen my fish?" ha! I have been a lurker on this forum on and off for awhile. I was thinking of posting our latest tank update in a build thread and also discussing the entire story of our tank build dilemma. Though I am definitely jaded by the whole ordeal, I want the present a story of facts and be as unbiased as an involved party can be. I looked for reviews before we committed to buying a tank and there weren't really any. If I can prevent someone else from going through what we did, then it will be worth it to share our story. Still undecided, though.

I really don't want to bash anyone if they don't deserve it. I was honest when I said that none of the fish we got from Andy ever made it, but we also haven't bought too many from that store. And I realize that new fish are always touchy. We did buy an anemone from him once and it was a good one. I apologize for being such a harsh critic as they have always been helpful in that store and very informative. I don't have a beef with them at all.

We always love build threads so feel free to do such, it also provides you an area to ask for help and specific ideas to your build- look forward to seeing it. We prefer the vendor feedback within this forum, so would ask to keep that covered here, simply to isolate the issues and allow honest feedback/discussion between all involved. Some sites take a heavier hand but we prefer to err on the side of allowing legitimate feedback from both sides. However, we will lock down or delete if it gets nasty or out of hand - would hate to do that with a build thread so would be better to keep the issues/threads separate.

Sounds good! I will keep that in mind. I was planning to post them separate as I don't want any negativity surrounding our sweet new set up! HA!

Update: Not sure if anyone will see this or not, but the replacement emperor they gave us died. It has been sick since day one with gill flukes and who knows what else. Whatever illnesses he brought with him wiped our our sailfin (had that fish for 2+ years) and a couple others too.
