Getting back in to reefing...

Gotta biocube 29 the other day from petsmart for $150.

Was looking at this kit to retrofit in the current hood
Aquarium 24 LEDs Dimmable DIY LED kit with optics

Anyone used these LED's comments/concerns. Was going to go with the meanwell P drivers to hook up to a controller later. What color combo ratio, etc?

Want to keep some SPS and LPS, will this LED setup be good, maybe add a couple extra LEDS, think the meanwells run up to 14 per driver.

Was going to go with Rapid, which they are awesome, but the price difference has be thinking to get this one from aquastyle.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

And if anyone remembers me, if you got one of my RBTA's PM me up so I can buy one back in the future.

Mickey

I don't believe they have the efficiency of the Cree or Phillips LED's -- flexrac did his build with the aquastyle led's. Another place to check pricing on DIY is ledgroupbuy.com.

We have a sponsor ModAquatics (Robert) that I think has a very nice retro kit for the biocubes.

I would highly suggest going with Rapid over just about any smoking deal. Between Robert from Modaquatics and myself, we have solved many led problems due to cheap components. Many times a dealer will say the Leds themselves are Cree or Bridglux when they are counterfeit. Same with some drivers. Isn't china great?

I have 180 Rapid Crees mounted on 3 heat sinks across a 220. I'm in cypress. If your close, your more than welcome to stop by and check them out. I also have 3 rbt anemones if you want one.

Let me know. It would be well worth the trip. My lights are about 6-8 months old and I haven't had a single issue. Pus, there in very nice black enclosures with dimming controllers.

Mike
PS. I know Mike at Rapid and may be able to get you a discount on parts.

Didn't catch the biocube ....... Modaquatics would be the best and by far the easiest. Plus, he has off the chart customer service!

+1, make it the 3rd rep for Robert here. His boards are extremely easy to modify and Robert has been patient helping me fine tune my setup- awesome service on his product. Any extra it costs (if it even does- having a sale right now) is more than made up for by help after the sale.

Agreed. Robert will customize to your tank's needs, and has all the research covered to set you up for 50,000+ hours. Great guy!

RapidLED is all DIY. You breaky, you fixy, you pay(ee?) more money. Trial and error can be troublesome if it ain't your cup of tea... I enjoy it, but have lost quite a wad of greenbacks to it. That's kind-of why I'll just pay more for peace of mind these days...

Good luck with your build!

I bought my first LEDs for my main 55 gallon DT from groupbuy, and I have got a couple things from rapidled as well, but honestly so far as I am concerned the best for pricing, product quality and customer service is stevesleds. First time I ordered anything from him was midnight on a friday and it was in my mailbox monday when I got home from work.

He mostly deals with Phillips Luxeon but he has a couple others, including the cheapest Cree Royal blues around, if that is your thing. Personally I like a ratio 2:1 or 3:1 (if you really like the blue look) Luxeon Royal Blue to Luxeon 2700k warm white. The color rendition is amazing and they just look fantastic, even without any supplimental colored LEDs.

He even has biocube kits: Biocube 29 Gallon LED retrofit kit
