I saw the announcement that the Neptune A3 has been released. For you guys running apex is it worth it? I still really like the idea of the triton. The new Apex Mini is a really attractive option at $300. This might be my next upgrade, but I just can’t convince myself yet that it’s worth it.

I saw this as well but I didn't watch the video showing off the new features.

As far as the Neptune system in general is concerned, the true potential isn't realized until you put an Trident on it. It's a much different story once that gets involved.

I may save up the money and give it a go early next year. Until then I guess I will test my water like a peasant. Lol!

The Jrs don't do much, but nice to have if you can't check the tank all the time for general stuff like temp, especially with the heat we've had. I'd save for the full model though.

Definitely a great piece of equipment to have with a Trident. The new version has the FMM built in. It's some extra ports for thing like the refugium light, leak detection, auto top off and so on with out needing a separate module to run them. Otherwise it has the same stuff as the 2016 model. It also no longer comes with a salinity probe, which I've never found to be great anyway.

Old vs new

Yeah, that’s the A3 pro which has a few more ports than the A3. I think there’s one less FMM port on the standard A3. The junior is going to be a decent machine for $300. They were claiming on the livestream that it would have nearly as much functionality as the other Apex systems. We shall see though I guess, because it’s not out yet.

if your trying to save money and start off small, the jr is the way to go. you can always add extra modules down the road but those will cost ya. only thing that's really new about the A3 pro is that it comes with the level sensor and has a built in alarm. The Built in fmm is not really a big deal cause you can buy a new fmm module for about 100. That being said i ordered one anyway cause i like gadgets and the store excepted trade for the cost.

What i did find amusing was that they also have a 25yr anniversary limited edition a3 pro. with that one you get a sticker, a 25yr label, a hat and t-shirt and the most exciting additional feature is that you will get a hand signed thank you card. wtf?

I have the A2 Pro and I don’t see a need to upgrade. I’m very certain that I can use the new sensors with the FFM module as long as the firmware is updated.

The hand signed thank you card is a bit odd. Lol! I am looking to automate my testing a bit and add some smart monitoring. For the cost the junior seems to be where I would want to start since it works with the trident. Who knows though. When I get to the point where I’m ready to buy I might just get the standard apex.

I’m in sales and I was always taught to send “Thank You” cards or emails on every sale that’s made. Why does it have to be the product that I have to spend the most money before getting a Thank you?

typically it’s not done for retail products, because at volume a personal touch like that wouldn’t be feasible. Especially at the volume I imagine they are running. I suspect they assume only their die hard enthusiasts are going to buy this product and those are the people who have been keeping them going for 25 years. Just a guess though.

To me it seemed odd that they would add that as a feature instead of just giving it to you. Not much of a selling point, but would be a nice gesture to find in the box.
