Guess the storm last night took out the Ethernet port on my apex classic in the fishroom. [emoji3525]

I have tried resetting 3 times. Haven’t done a factory init as some dummy doesn’t have his configuration backed up. It manages 3 systems. [emoji58]

I just checked mine and some how DHCP was back on and was pulling the wrong IP range. Reset to correct IP and gateway settings and now working fine. IDK why it changed.

Not sure which model you have but they also sent me this. Do you have another port to test with to verify its not the router? I'm running mine from the garage using two routers one in bridge mode.

*** THIS IS FOR ONLY APEX CLASSIC, APEX LITE, or APEXJR ***

***DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS PROCEDURE IF YOU HAVE AN APEX WITH BUILT WIFI ***

*** THIS CAN ONLY BE NONE USING A PC COMPUTER, NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MAC ***

I have included a special firmware that will reset everything back to default: programs, configuration, network setup, and login credentials. This next step will erase everything.

*Initialization will erase corruption and everything else. Copy your programming onto a notepad or go to APEXFUSION.com and print the summary. (Please do not load a saved bin file as this could have the corruption within the file)

Please follow the following directions:
  1. Download the reset firmware revision here
    https://www.neptunesystems.com/downloads/firmware/apex_reset_login_4.10-7A10.zip
  2. Unzip the attached file
  3. Download our most recent revision of firmware here:
    Latest Firmware
  4. Confirm a hardwired Ethernet connection from your computer to router and router to APEX
  5. Disable your wireless card if you have one
  6. Open the flash utility
  7. Click the browse button to change the existing "aqua4.hex" file from the production firmware (from step #3) with the reset firmware "aqua4.hex" file (from step #1)
  8. On "network address" line put XXX.XXX.XXX.225, the XXX.XXX.XXX needs to match your gateway (Example: If your gateway is 192.168.1.1, then you would enter this in the network address:192.168.1.225)
  9. Un-plug the AquaBus cable attached to the Apex Base Unit
  10. Turn off firewalls or any anti virus software on the computer
  11. Click the update firmware button in the Apex utility
  12. After you see attempt 1 failed on the progress line, plug your APEX back in (Reconnect the AquaBus cable to the Apex)
  13. Confirm the reset firmware update has been completed
  14. Your unit has now been reset

Now you will need to re-update the firmware to the latest production firmware
  1. Open the flash utility (If closed)
  2. Click the browse button to change the existing "aqua4.hex" file with the production firmware "aqua4.hex" file (the file downloaded in step #3)
  3. Click the update firmware button in the Apex utility
  4. Once the update is completed
  5. Click on the magnifing glass icon to see if the Apex IP address has changed
  6. Select the Apex on the list then click on "OK"
  7. Update the web pages
  8. Login to your unit in the normal fashion. default:admin password:1234

Yeah mine is router to switch to apex. I plugged another switch in to test cable/switch feeding apex and got a link light. I also moved to another port just in case.

Man I don’t want to reprogram.... what a pain. I was hoping maybe to be able to pull the configuration from fusion and reload it but I guess no such luck. I have a ticket open but I guess they had already split for the weekend.

Im not sure if there is a way to backup without having a network connection. Have you tried just plugging a laptop directly into the apex and setting your IP to the same network? Maybe you can get a connection to do the backup?

APEX owners don't be a dummy like SteveB. :mod:

Make a backup of your configuration! I spent several hours yesterday re-inputting outlet info and probe/module info into my other APEX controller so I can send this one out for repair. Had I had a backup I could have followed the Clone APEX process. :NEWpccrash:

Are you upgrading the head unit?

Thinking about it but want to spend my limited $ on other things first. Then I will consider doing it.

Dang that is a hard pill to swallow. I would definitely back that code up. Sorry you had to experience that.

Thanks. No one to blame here but me, and the dang lightning storm.

Took out our powered subwoofer, a phone and a couple of electric devices in addition to the APEX. Weird thing is we didn't have a direct strike. No idea how it got us.

Steve: Did you have your Apex connected to a UPS? If not, does your house have a surge protector?

Negative on both. Weird thing is there was no direct lighting strike on our house or near us for that matter. Took out one Apex, the other is fine, one powered subwoofer, a monitor, a cordless phone and a few other things but not enough to reach the deductible.
