So to my surprise I quickly setup my Apex. I did not experience any of the horror stories that I've read so much about. The snag I have had is getting access via my ipad and iphone. Do i really need to setup port forwarding? It seems like my Apex was discovered by the app but after entering my User Id and password it clears the fields. Other times in conjunction with clearing the fields I get a time out error. Any guidance is greatly appreciated

If you need remote access from outside your network using the apex app the answer is Yes, you need port forwarding. If you need remote access from outside using Fusion the answer is NO.

Thanks King. Then I guess I'm confused as to why someone would use the app versus fusion? The app requires port forwarding (which seems to be a hassle). Am I missing something obvious?

The app loads way faster for me, main reason why I use it. It also doesn't require me to sign in repeatedly over a day's use. If I ever need to look at graphs, I'll use Fusion.

Miguel has set mine up on fusion and I never have a issue.
It even shows up on my media screen in my new truck when I say command "fusion"

port forwarding is a PITA if you don't have a static external IP. You can use dyndns but it is a extra step to troubleshoot in case something goes wrong. My recommendation is "keep it simple" and use Fusion for external access.
