Actually, it re-appeared. I did a 20 - 25 gallon water change to one of the tanks (160 Gal). The water level in the sump area for return pump where the probes were, was low. With the change, I know the salinity went down and needed to wait for it to pick-up from the new saltwater. Unfortunately, the probe is not detecting the proper salt level. I measured with the new Hannah meter and it reads 1.025x, but the Apex probe reads much lower and is showing alter that is lower than 32PPT.

I tapped and shook the probe in the water in case it had air bubbles but it still reads low. I have been checking every 30 minutes with both the Hannah and the Apex.
Hannah reads consistent, however, the Apex probe is slowly showing a slight increase. The initial reading was 29.6 it now shows 30.8 with translates to 1.0232 S.G
I will check tomorrow morning and see where it stands.

But, it’s new and it was calibrated about two weeks ago. 🙄 Anyways, I am getting alerted every hour and I have seen an increase each time. It’s at 31.6 right now.

You are probably right. It may have not been submerged under water for a longer period than it should have. I moved all the probes to a different location as well, less prone to micro-bubbles or sudden water level changes when the return pump is off.

If personally trust a freshly calibrated Hannah over the probe. Sounds like Gregg is right. That probe already needs to be calibrated.

The reason I would trust a freshly calibrated Hannah is because those probes have a history of needing to be recalibrated frequently. Some rarely have to, and some have to constantly

Right, since both the Apex and Hannah were acquired and calibrated recently, I trust the Hannah.

The Apex seems to be reading, albeit extremely slow. It’s reading 32.4 now.

In addition to that, once the Hannah is calibrated, it consistently reads the calibration fluid correctly. The fact that the apex is gradually changing would make me not trust it

I don’t bother paying attention to the apex probe. It either drops or raises significantly with any water change. The consistency of the daily fluctuations is the only thing you may be interested in. Other than that it’s junk. I do, however, check salinity in all my tanks daily with Hanna checker.

Also, I’ve gone through 3 new probes to figure this out... all of them needed to be recalibrated constantly. No point in recalibration. Just let it be.. stupid.

Agree. It was reading OK and even quick fluctuations until the water dropped significantly below the probes.
The Hannah has been spot on for all my four tanks so far. I have been checking them every other day or when I mixed salt for the QTs and the water changes in the 160s.
Really happy with it.

As this morning, the Apex reads 33.6 which should be right about what the Hannah reads. I need to mix some more salt, but I will admit I did my first (or second) newbie mistake.
As I don't have my AWC working yet, I did a manual change and I was in a hurry. I mixed salt in a few 5gal buckets for about 2 hours and changed the water in my DT.
Well, it was a mistake... Water has been cloudy for the past 1.5 days. It is sloooooowly clearing, but I will never make that mistake again. :(
