Hello everyone, I’m relatively new to the forums but here’s my tank! It’s a bit messy from the new macros but hopefully they settle in nicely.

Equipment:
20 gallon long standard glass aquarium
Current USA orbit marine 24-36” (plan to add an orbit IC strip)
Current USA 660gph eFlux wave pump
Aquaclear 50 running floss and seachem pond matrix (want to upgrade to AC70)
Finnex HOB refugium running rubble rock and chaetomorpha
Cobalt neo-therm 100w heater

Hardscape:
~20lbs of dry rock
~40lbs of oolite sand (with a little bit of Fiji pink mixed in)

CUC:
~20 dwarf ceriths
~5 nassarius
2 ceriths
1 red leg hermit crab

Plants/macroalgae:
1 shoot of turtle grass
Botryocladia
Caulerpa racemosa var. peltata
C. mexicana
C. prolifera
C. cupressoides
Gracilaria
Bryothamnion
Hetereosiphona gibessii
Encrusting and branching coralline

Coral and nems:
3 rock flower anemones
Green Goniopora strokesi frag
1 polyp of orange micromussa lordhowensis (acan)
Pink sakura zoas
Green lagoon zoas
And 3 other color varieties I have yet to ID
1 green Ricordia florida
1 little Superman discosoma
1 ugly cabbage leather
Kenya tree cutting
Anthelia frag
Green star polyps

I have a sixline wrasse that will be moved in here when (and if) I can catch him. I also want to add a few sexy shrimp for my slowly growing RFA garden. Don’t dose anything except the occasional phyto and zooplankton. I feed pellets, frozen, and reef frenzy. plan on farming copepods to feed the wrasse and and future filter feeders. Ive been switching over to reef crystals but I hardly do any wc, 10% every 2 weeks.

This tank is not very old, the rock and sand moved in from a 40 gallon about a year ago. I plan on making it like a display refugium but with a little bit of LPS and plenty of softies. Maybe a dragonet in the future. I’m still building it up and upgrading so stay tuned for updates : )

Love it!

Have always enjoyed macro algae tanks.

Thank you! I love the look of macros and they’re so helpful in the reef.

Also, this app is a bit wonky idk why those pictures sent twice haha oops

Oops. It’s been a while since an update [emoji28]

Currently the tank is looking dirty! I’ll be upgrading to a canister filter soon for better mechanical filtration. The aquaclear 50 just can’t keep up with all the feeding. Also plan on getting new lights for better macro growth and color. You may notice the coral is gone... I accidentally overdosed fertilizer and they didn’t like the nutrient spike. Luckily everything was saved and doing well in my 10 gallon I have set up temporarily (more on that in a future post). I will be adding the softies back and stocking it with some more fish[emoji16]

Looks really cool! I think some seahorses and maybe a pipefish or something would be really cool in there, maybe a mandarin or dragonet too. Would love to do a tank like this

I think you should set up a tang buffet. People bring their tangs and you charge by the hour as they go to town on that caulerpa.

I know its been a while but I thought i'd give this thread some closure. After it got overrun with dinos I ripped all the caulerpa out, rescaped the tank, and moved it by a window! It did well there for about a year, towards the end I started getting a lot of hair algae from overfeeding, and then the Great Texas Blizzard of 2021 hit and my tanks crashed 😢 after that I took all my tanks down and moved to Magnolia. I've learned so much about macroalage care from this tank and I'm excited to get back into the hobby this year!

my only regret is not taking enough pictures :ohwell:
