THIS is an excellent video about pukani aquascape. Good luck with the rocks, pukani is my favorite. If you want good flow throughout and a bit more real estate try the pillar look the FishofHex has. Good luck!

Less rock on the substrate to obstruct flow the better! I remember our former Sponsors at CrystalReef (I think that was the name) discussing that at one of their workshops years back.

Less is more in this case but you still need ample amount of rock so bacteria/micro fauna can colonize. You can stick some rock in the sump for added benefit.

Steve,
What are the grey/black patches on the rocks? Are you going to dump in muriatic acid?

Oh man they sat outside for years, with the dog whizzing on them. Then put up and stored for more years in trash cans.

Probably mold, Moss, dirt etc. it’s all back in the trash cans. Each can got 3g of bleach then filled to the rim with water. Going to take them out and pressure wash them next Wednesday when my work hell week is over.

I agree with the less is more part. I have a 4' tank and started with what I would consider "medium" amount of rock. Mentally I intended to have less, but naturally started adding more when I was scaping because it just looked so empty. lol. In hind sight with coral growing out, I'm at a point where I want to take some rocks out but they're too settled in to do so now without making a big mess. I threw in a good amount of biosphere in the sump to help with the bacterial side of the house allowing me to go without a large amount of rock. Yes I've heard of all the leaking discussion and I've never experienced it personally.. If I have.. I haven't noticed. =)

Looks really good so far. One suggestion I would make is adding a mount to the far left structure. With such a narrow base it may get knocked over fairly easy. Also what did you use to secure them together? Also what types of corals and fish are you planning on keeping? You want plenty of places for your fish to hide, as well as spots to mount corals on. Also you need to consider coral growth and how frequently you will need to prune to keep them from causing issues with each other.
