can i ask why someone would like to see the mother colony? on reefcentral in the coral area when someone is selling zoas they almost always post a picture of the mother colony, why?

To see what it should turn out like, sometimes its easier to see what it will look like grown out by seeing the mother colony.

Well two reasons for me...first superglued zoas normally look far worse than the place the colony they came from so seeing the mother colony gives you a good idea of what to expect once the frag recovers and grows out. Secondly I like to make sure I am getting something from an aquacultured mother colony and not a poor coral that was purchased and hacked up to make money. One who takes the time out to aquaculture a coral and sell a frew frags is a propagator or coral farmer in my mind someone who cuts up a mother colony only for profit is a butcher.
