Im having a problem finding an ATO that actually works. Ive gone though two of them now, the AutoAqua Smart and the XP Aqua Duetto, both failed within the week. Are there any good reliable ATOs that would work well in a small sump? I have the Waterbox 45 Reef.

How did they fail?

I use the osmolator 3152 on two tanks, and it works very consistently.

Make a Gravity fed diy Ato. Best $15 ever spent. Fail proof unless you don’t have any water in ATO reservoir

Used to use one for years and serpents would get in my float valve and block the valve from floating so I had to switch

The sensors are garbage on these ATOs I've tried. Looks like I'm going to give the Tunze a try :)

I used a gravity/siphon method on a 12 gallon covered cube when I couldn't tend to it for more than a few days (out of town). It took some fiddling - I found I had to use 3/8 air inlet tubing at the water line and cut it slashed - or it would just suck up water without breaking the vacuum. But once I got it working, it worked fine. I just used gallon glass milk jugs, so it couldn't overflow (much), it was cheap, but I did have to restart the siphon every time I added water. For that situation, it was the right tool.
For my current system, I've got an avast ATO with their peristaltic pump. I've had it about 2 months, but so far, it's working well. It too took some fiddling, but only because I used a peristaltic pump with a float valve - so I put in a recycle loop. The magnet mount is very convenient and adjustable, and I suppose if it does fail, it would fall in, and stop the ATO, rather than encourage continuous pumping. I like it. The pressure sensor works well. All the tubing connections have to be tight. I had to address that on set-up, but not since. If I had a second large tank, I'd buy it again.

That said, I have a tunze turbelle stream3 and the moonlight/night mode sensor. Both seem pretty thoughtfully designed. I imagine their ATO is as well. I think I thought the Avast looked simpler. I also got a holiday deal on the avast, and finally - it came with an octopus logo - how can you beat that? (Oh yeah, it's also assembled near where my wife grew up).

The Avast ATO looks pretty cool, if this Tunze doesn't work out Ill try that one.

Yep. I don't have the 3152 but I do have 4 of 3155's. Three running the tunze ato pump and one running a spectrapure peristaltic pump. I like them.

Couldn't agree with him more.

@iverr6 reach out to me and I'll help coach you through a gravity feed. Best decision you'll ever make. You can make a small cabinet to house the container plus put in shelves to help store things.
