I do. I'll give you some study courses when I get back from my trip. Also, if you have a tenant account, you can access the training section. They have a huge section of videos and tutorials.

Coming from someone with zero knowledge of the subject, that's exactly what I would recommend too.

@Bullitt519 it looks like @TriggerFan will be our Sensei!

I'm an old school Solaris/HPUX/Linux & Oracle guy. Gotta get myself more marketable.

Working on my AWS cloud practitioner certification. My company is trying to get everyone cloud certified before year end with at least the basic cert. Guess I shouldn't have let my Salesforce developer certification expire! :) We had the choice of google or AWS and since AWS has about 50% of the cloud market that is certainly the way to go.

Oh and just to add...ANYONE can get cloud certified! ANYONE! You do not need to know IT or anything computer related...just some logic. Just start with the basic courses and use Youtube and anything else you can find and start working with it. AWS and Salesforce both give you free accounts so you can play with it as much as you like. As long as you keep it active they will leave it up and running for you. Cloud computing is definitely the future and people should get on board.
OK no more lectures...

Wish my cheap *** company paid for training and we are IT services provider. But hey they haven't handed out raises or bonuses in 4 years to anyone other than the suits. So as soon as I can get my certification I am going to be looking. Definitely exit stage left for me. Sick of it.

I get a $1 an hr raise per cert but I don't really have time to study. Plus my boss with pay for the test. But he wants Microsoft certs which take forever. I have been debating about getting my bachelors but idk if it will help me much.

I did microsoft boot camp training four years ago. It ended up being pretty worthless as far as getting certified. I don't work with MS products enough.

My focus has always been Solaris/HPUX/Linux (primarily Red Hat) and Oracle RDBMS. My career has been primarily managing those teams (sysadmin/dba).

Trying to go back to an individual contributor role was probably a bad move on my part but at the time I needed to feed the family and pay the bills so here I am stuck in a dead end job. Bitter a little? Why yes.

Please tell me they are talking about MS Azure right? Any MS certs other than Azure or possibly SQL server would be a waste in this day and age. Fewer and fewer companies are running local servers so a MS server cert is not worth it any longer....I got mine in the 1990's and never bothered to update it. Think CLOUD based for any new certs!

Your BS degree is ok and some companies require a 4 year degree for employment but I know plenty of successful IT guys who do not have a 4 year degree! I am no hiring expert but it seems to me that certifications mean more than degrees. I thought about going for my MBA a couple times but none of the companies I worked for would pay anything more for the time/cost I put in. Put it this way, there are LOTS of fresh college grads with lots of indoctrination they can hire cheap if they really just want a BS degree. You have work experience so you should be thinking about certifications that make you more marketable to them but really for the outside world. Keep yourself marketable and try to keep up with the latest trends. IT changes quickly and gets tough to stay current but got to do it...or you get into mgmt...which I dont really want to do.

I think he was mostly looking at desktop certs. Our business model is IT Desktop,Server Support / Monitoring / We also do Hosting For Small to Med Business's. Yeah I know sometime certs/experience can over rule degrees. I have an Associates in Computer Networking, and CCNA Cert. But haven't needed to use it in my current job. I'm kinda new to the industry I've only been working in it for 5 years. Before that I was a machinist. I have been looking at getting more Certs for cloud based. My brother is a Data Engineer for Capital One and he does pretty good.

I have a BA in accounting and have not used it since the first year out of college...that was almost 30 years ago now. When I started out it was in support as well...back in the days when we actually had to teach people how to use a mouse...not joking....we had to get them to play solitaire to learn to use a mouse! I have a friend who never got his 4 year degree but did get his MS Systems Engineer certification and then MS DBA cert. Yeah they are time sinks... It helped him get a nice remote job that he had about 5 years. While he was there he got almost all the AWS certs and now he works for AWS! Keep challenging yourself with new relevant certs and they will pay off. Of course a great attitude is critical but a lot of hard work is required.

I need to do something and find a company with insurance. That's why i'm looking to get more Certs. or Degree. Most higher paying jobs want a 4 year just to get in the door. My toddler has a long term medical condition and will require checkups, surgery, and equipment the rest of her life. Its nothing major but we went in for a checkup and it was 488 for the appointment out of pocket and it was just a checkup.

A Cloud Guru is who we are using now. All video training and you pause the video to do the hands on. It remembers where you left off and shows your progress in the training. Currently 18% complete on the cloud practitioner...if I can get all this work out of the way I can continue! :) Pretty simple so far only about 20 min of presentation then you get to actually do something...not death by powerpoint!

Yep that's it. If you had the time you could easily knock out the cloud practitioner in the 7 day trial...assuming they let you do it all. They do not issue the exams just prep you for it. But I am building my AWS org as we go so you are learning.
When I did my Salesforce developer training back in 2013 I read a document and did all the work in my developer org. I am still amazed how much information is free on the internet if you put in the time to learn it.
