I'm just getting back into the hobby after a hiatus, my tank and all equipment are set to arrive tomorrow the 30th. I'm looking into options for a battery back up for my system, however I'm finding that my Nero 3 won't be compatible with some of the more aquarium designed DC battery backups.

Does anyone have any experience with Nero's and battery backups? I've thought about swapping out the Nero 3 with an MP10 so that I can pair it with the Ecotech backup, but obviously comes with more expense..

If there aren't any alternatives for the Nero, what are your experiences with the typical UPS backups meant for computers etc?
Do you have a recommendation?

I'll have a Redsea 200XL with a Syncra 2.0 return pump and (1) Nero 3 wavemaker. (ideally would like to run both pumps on a backup, unless that's not feasible?)

Thank you in advance! All help appreciated.

did you want an automatic system that'll kick on when the power goes out? or something a lil more manual?

this past hurricane I used my jackery battery to power the tank for a day or so while the power turned back on. Its not automatic since I had to plug in stuff directly, but it was good enough to keep my tank going.

Manual would work fine, automatic would be nice but I'm sure it comes at a cost. What size do you have for it to last a day and what did you have plugged in? A day's duration would be plenty for what I'd need it for.

Thanks!

I had one of these https://www.amazon.com/BLUETTI-Portable-Station-Generator-Off-grid/dp/B095Y6ZTR1

with a 200 watt solar panel connected to it. I was using about 60 watts and the panel was making about 50-60watts. So I probably could have gotten 2-3 days out of it.

I had my return pump, and mp10 connected to it and kessel a360w light connected. Granted everything was for a smaller nanoish tank. I use the battery for camping too so it serves dual purpose.

When I was starting out I used a car battery and an inverter to run just the pumps. Pretty manual but a lot cheaper than most options.

U just have to outcomepete me huh lol j/k. As I was driving away I was thinking man if lost power for a while you cant have a generator. Battery backup is a must. Good choice on getting as much as possible. You may want to look into those solar generators or foldable solar arrays on the patio to recharge if ever necessary. Which seems to be the norm now.

No no not competing at all lol. I’m just major downsizing and don’t need a lot of stuff.

Not sure if you reside in a house or apartment but I have this tiny generator for camping - works incredible and it's under $200. It's also not noisy like the big ones.
