My Salifert is almost exhausted and I am looking for a good test kit. I dont like the dropper system of the calcium salifert it feels innacurate to me as i always get uneven drops so I need a better solution. What test kits do yall use/recommend for calcium?

I personally just use a cheap API. I've cross referenced them multiple tines with trident and ICP tests and it's always within +/-10ppm. That's close enough for me. However, it does use drops.

Tell your mom to get you a trident!!

I’ve compared my salifert, trident and Hanna on a calibration sample and they all came out very close to each other.

Just get a dang Apex already! Gregg told me earlier that if you mow his lawn one time, he will buy you an apex and triton.

Hey @Matyas try turning your bottle over and letting first drop come out before putting any into test tube. I feel like after the first drop, and it’s vertical upside down, it’s a lot easier to get accurate droplets. Also, keep tension on the bottle and don’t let it breath between drops. When you squeeze and let go after each drop it allows air in which helps aid in the size change in your drops.

I do something similar with the squeeze bottle for their nitrates. Get any air out of the way that might effect the drops then I use it.

I do something similar with salifert alk and nitrate. Cap off, turn bottle upside down to make sure what’s about to come out is solvent instead of both that and air, squeeze bottle vertical with steady pressure (be careful you don’t get a 5th drop accidentally in vial). Comes in handy esp when the bottle is almost out.

Salifert calcium. First bottle like said above- lid off gentle squeeze to get first partial drop out, gentle and controlled drops after that with bottle vertical. Always read directions for this test. Some kits instruct 8 drops, others require 10 drops. I always leave the instruction paper on my test station in case I forget.

In fact, it’s best to always read directions for all salifert test kits. Instructions do change sometimes.
